Global, thanks for the notice. I see I can pre-order the CD from Amazon, and I'll certainly be doing that.
Sorry I can't help at this stage with the translation - I'd really need to see it.
The first word sounds like chonaic, which is the past tense of feic, to see.
Feicim an ghealach - I see the moon. Chonaic mé an ghealach - I saw the moon. There's a lot of grammar in those little sentences! Don't ask!

I have a suspicion you might enjoy this link. It's a song from The Gloaming 2, Casadh an tsúgáin, but with a different singer. There's a bit of a story as well, told in the sean nós style. Great if you like it..........

That's a great piece - thank you for sharing, I really like the way the language and the song are open to interpretation - the whole piece is full of great subtlety, poignancy and humour.
I shall explore the website some more - especially as, by coincidence, we hope to be going to Clifden this year, via Cong, plus we'll be looking for the Mountainy Men along the way (once met, never forgotten - except we can't quite remember where we met them).

I'm guessing you've got this CD already:
One of the world's greatest ever traditional singers is celebrated on this magnificent double CD of previously unissued material recorded by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger in 1964, when Joe Heaney was at the height of his powers. 39 tracks and a 60 page

I shall iisten to it again.
        thanks.

Following on from thoughts on Gloaming 2, here is another song they will be performing - Slán le Máigh. Looking forward to their arrangement of this lovely tune. In the video you might also recognise a denizen of these parts - might? Of course you will.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Verity Sharp played The Pilgrim's Song from The Gloaming 2 this morning.
I could not find any version of this when I looked; but I found versions of most of the others.

                Thanks John.
I heard the programme this morning. I think VS is a big fan of The Gloaming - or maybe Martin Hayes! I'm dying to see what he makes of Cucanandy. Here is Joe Heaney's version.

And for good value a version for bowed psaltery - delightful.

Here are a couple of reels with politically suspicious titles - The Broken Pledge and (The) Repeal (of) The Union. Only joking John, not a thing political about them. But I wonder what Pledges and Unions they mean. Ireland? America? - the tunes are too old for the European Union, but could it be prophetic? I wouldn't trust that Donegal fiddler - he can hardly keep a straight face! The Gloaming 2 has Repeal the Union.

Next step - to get to hear the whole CD. I hope you all enjoy it - i.e. you and John.
                          Best wishes, Padraig.

Indeed, Padraig. Max closed with 'The Hare' on LJ Wednesday evening last and it just made me want more...having to hold myself back from the hype of my own (and others) making.

Marry Waterson and David Jaycock were on recorded live in Bristol at the weekend on last evening's Radfolkprog, and very good they were too; and as foretold by Mr Globaltruth Gloaming show up next week on the show.
