The Karine Polwart and Sheena Wellington tracks were also well worth including. Shame that we only had one and a quarter hours this week but good that there was so much to it.
Wholehearted agreement - when the Sangare/Fleck set started I thought it sounded like a Kulanjan part 2. However that second track was top notch - she really has the most glorious voice and I thought Bela grew into it - I love that deep south swampy minimalist banjo and it worked really well. The final track, Djorolen, was glorious.
Yellow on the Broom is the local anthem in these parts and Sheena Wellington has such a beautifully pure voice - great version. Talking about a great voice, I really liked the singer in Furnace Mountain - good tune too. I'm looking forward to hearing the new Karine Polwart record - she really is quality in my opinion.

It's a bit wierd though when Oilrig plays exactly the same track that I played the day before...

Baloji by Congo Eza Ya Biso off Kinshasa Succursale - a new disk so maybe not too surprising. Still worth listening to regularly , and as she pointed out features on the WM Prom on Sept 6.

And welcome back OR - more when I've finished LA'ing to the show, I've been away too.

Here's a holiday snap of me & Mrs GT - caused a stir on the M62 I can tell you.

        Neat sandals, G ....... no socks neither...nice!

That Karine Polwart is blinkin' marvellous! Such a beautifully delicate yet powerful song is 'Cover Your Eyes' - she writes about a Scotland that I recognise.

That was a standout track indeed.

And you can't fault Tom Paley - listen to him while you can. A cool gringo...

And here's the link to Prom 74

Congolese street musicians Staff Benda Bilili and Congolese-Belgo rapper Baloji bring their own pieces of Africa to the Proms.

As teamsaint told us elsewhere, Oilrig's got Session A9 in the studio with her tonight - I assume it's not a live show. A bit more Karine too and Mary Gauthier - neat.

Hmm we passed through ST7 today - I can see why it's called the Nashville of the Midlands.

Here's the relevant section from my playlist as we passed through:
                  Danger - Johnny Dowd
                  Koronoko - Rokia Traore
                  Mopeitty Mope - The Bosstones
                  No Llama - Juana Molina
Ireland, boys, hurrah - the Mcpeakes
                  Nana - Sheila Chandra
( I know you like a list; as you can see me & Mrs GT are revisiting greatest hits - it happens from time to time and from place to place)

Then we headed thru the glory of Nantwich, best observed in Stony Silence. Or was that one of the villages we passed through?

Funnily enough, as it would happen, I was just wondering yesterday what had become of Ms Chandra while listening to Kristi Stassinopoulou from the recent Songlines release which I rather enjoyed.

Never subscribed to anything since the day, a good many years ago, when I realised that 2000AD was no longer aimed at guys my age - pick it up in Perth occasionally and usually about a month after it comes out when you have to search the shelves for the detached 'free' CD - nonetheless, it usually makes for a nice bit listening on the way back East. This bi-month I am mostly really enjoying the Caroline Herring track, backed by Jackie Oates.

The mag itself is a nice accompaniment to a hot bath, but I prefer to subscribe to the bath.

I get worried that I get lost in there, Global

.....by the way that Johnny Dowd track is a right belter.

I enjoyed Session A9 on Oilrig's but could have done without the Jackson Browne cover.

Really liked the Duncan Chisolm piece and reference to piper Gordon Duncan. On Sunday I was working in Perth and came upon a poster for a memorial concert for Gordon that had taken place the previous night at the concert hall and among those on the line-up, Iarla Ó Lionáird - I really must get out more.
Taken during a remarkable recital at the Piping Centre in Glasgow in 2003. A close up view of just how good Gordon was.

                              Global,

You must have been on the A500, a road that is often a backdrop to the McPeakes but less so, strangely, to Johnny Dowd.
                              Just like Radio 3.

                              That's i-shuffle for you !

Nantwich seems to attract unrecognised gospel from the device for some reason ( there's a year's programmes worth of Kevin Nutt selections in there as well stuff I've bunged on )

Now I'm in TR27 atm and have had no chance to LA MAK. What's the killer item this time around ?

I must confess that iPlayer doesn't work in this part of Wales - so I don't know either... JC it's down to you.

Spotify plays fine - I can give you what I suspect to be the technical reason for this or blame it on the variable diorhythmic modulator. The choice is yours.

And DAB radio works here, whereas at home it never has & never will work as far as I am told.
