It's the classic 'it was great if you were there' problem with translating live music (of a certain sort) to the radio.
Does it mean that shouldn't happen?
Nope, listening is optional after all.
So I'll approach CC with the usual jaundiced ears and a hand trembling over the OFF switch (actually usually switching to something else)

Congratulations to MAK and Waxy Maxy for their contributions over the Christmas period. It cetainly constituted my Christmas listening. And some congratulations must be due to R3 management for avoiding going into "stuffy" traditional mode for the Christmas period, in contrast to previous years. Having donated my TV to a house guest, I don't think I listened or watched any christmas c**p. But one or two Bing Crosby numbers crept in here and there.
And now FT is raising the stakes in the new year with John Paul Jones. Great stuff!

Oilrig - I know that you don't normally do requests but it would be tremendous to hear Victor Jara on your next programme.
The news today of the arrest of former army officers accused of involvement in his murder is both astonishing and wonderful.
Atrocities are sadly commonplace but the perpetrators were extraordinarily cruel. In fact, when we choosing our favourite world music tracks on Spotify, I found that his story still has an emotional impact on me and I believe many people feel similarly.

Well, I've just been on the Jazz board & over there they REGULARLY get requests played...now OP has been known to oblige on Late junction (thanks Max); once the Celtic Connections jamboree is over, I reckon we should start to stack them up for Oilrig.
She has been known to respond to flowers ..
I think we did do this before but perhaps overwhelmed her with too many - so one each I reckon would be reasonable.
I'm keeping my powder dry for a bit....
and perhaps this may be a more appropriate image...

I think Oilrig's Friday Wo3 was a live show though it took me a while to pick up on it. I just assume it's recorded unless I get told something else - Max usually has a handover with the announcer person, so you know it's live - might be worth considering. It was a fine start to the show, mind you - the guests were nothing too special, but the inter-guest slot had some top tracks including Molsky and Rokia but top tune of the night for me was The Hut People. Terrific one - I'm going back for another listen to check it again.

I wasn't that bothered one way or the other about Zykopops though I enjoyed their third offering much better than the rest. Mary Ann did play Ebo Taylor in the middle slot and I could happily have listened to that for two hours (maybe) - and BeGoodTanyas 'Littlest Birds' near the end - never tire of that glory.

Last show:
There were a couple of belters in there - Ebo Taylor was definitely one, Joe Driscoll/Sekou Koyate...there were more, I may go back and listen again. As for the Zykopops, I enjoyed them - again, won't be buying any of their stuff, but the passion for Croatia came through & was well-reflected in the music.
Hey, Oilrig, When can we have some Iarla Ó Lionáird ??
