It's an odd experience listening to MAK in bed on an ipad ...

i enjoyed mak's interview with a woman from the (small)? outfit called 'michigan'...(when i checked the sleeve notes twas spellt differently). some great guitar playing and decent lyrics (for a 'girl singer'!

I enjoyed her too....although after Friday's show I was left with the thought, for the 2nd time in two weeks, that I'm really looking forward to Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino guesting in a couple of weeks - they sounded great...again! Mind you we've got Karine before then.

The show got into its stride with the Karine Polwart session which was very good & I'm going to be listening to the Donald Trump song again - a good perspective.

What a striking segue (Malick Pathe Sow/Vusa Mkhaya/Soname) Oilrig gave us neatly sandwiched between some more lovely Polwart.

It takes me a while to recover from Bellowhead, Global. Terrific set from KP - right enough, she does great songs about birds (and power stations and dunes).

yep, top marks for original approach to unusual subjects for lyrics.... we don't usually hear songs about power stations for instance!

canzoniere grecanico salentino yes, terrific! fiona talkington played a cracking tarentella by them earlier in the week too... so 'musn't grumble' applies.

the morph suits were massive last year....(aint seen any this, as yet) we have a photo of some ex neighbours setting awf out for a tipple, complete with matching tie, and plastic carriers with their morph suits! they look great, standing in line in front of a terrace bay window opposite, though i wish i'd asked them to be photographed in front of our house now - tut.

Well, that was a nice surprise - I turned up expecting Lopa but Oilrig was minding the decks this week. And what a fine show it's proving to be. For starters that Sekouba Bambino is one terrific singer, the Chinese pieces were beautiful and I found the guest Ara Dinkjian very interesting. Great to hear that she'll be revisiting the Michael Marra session from a couple of years back at the turn of the year (what a great song)....and the Terry Callier track was terrific. Still listening but quality as usual from MA.

I was very pleased to hear the tributes - Ian Hardie, Michael Marra, Terry Callier. "Happed in Mist" - Excellent. "Dancing Girl" from one of three albums with the great Charles Stepney. This is a very interesting article that compares Terry Callier with Nina Simone:

It also applauds that sound, those places, the era. I agree. For example, I am sure that Gil Scott-Heron sits in close there.

I liked the Ara Dinkjian session and was particularly taken by the delicate "Meeting my Past" and "Offering". Värttinä are appealing but aren't they commercial sounding? Scope for mainstream success! I like Solarference, Mike Vass and Brother Grass.

Juaneco Y Su Combo - Fun. Vinicius Cantuaria : Purus - Good. Mysterious and not unlike the Blue Nile. J Shogren and Shanghai'd - Extraordinary in a quiet way. The final part with the woman's voice was very reminiscent of a track on Martin Stephenson's "Gladsome Humour and Blue" which is obviously a positive thing. In fact, all of the track had that mild gothic vibe for me.

Especially good, the whole programme sounded just like late November. Nicely wintry with a hint of distant lights.
