    New!
    Improved!
    Contains old stuff too!

Sadly spotty loses who the original poster was, but I reckon it's worth preserving tracks from the broken ruin...

Yes, I did hear that last night GT. I really like the old radio jingles. I also enjoyed World Routes with Lucy on Cape Verde although it was an odd afternoon when I was drifting in and out of sleep.

I awoke to Jazz Library which featured Tim Garland. It was quite interesting I thought with Lammas being a bit folky and I particularly enjoyed The Lighthouse Trio piece with its evocation of the sea.

Good to hear from you Lat - I loved those Cape Verde programmes.

JC, occasionally I'm trying to rebuild the chain from the old one.

            Did you really go from

            ' I can't stand the rain'
            to
            'The Kneeling Drunkards Plea'

If so can you explain ? It works for me if that is what you reckon the kneeling drunkard is saying....kind of opens up a new method.

And I wish I could find a way of transferring the originators name across, but there doesn't seem to be one - sorry. when this gets written up for the History of Sound I'll produce an extensive footnote of apologia, correction and explanation a la Lawrence Norfolk.

No worries JC - that particular moment has gone, we have entered a lush passage from one of Mali's griot families. Found a tenuous link...

Fair enough G - I can See that one.

On a completely different note I ended up at the Scottish Parliament yesterday - I won't bore you with the details but it was nice to have a look round - there was a big procession down the Royal Mile - first time I'd ever walked down the middle of the Royal Mile - guy beside me said, 'Well it's the first time I've done it sober anyway in the middle of the day'. There was rock bands and folk bands and an enormous Pavarotti-like chip shop owning tenor (why was I thinking Chris Wood), who was trussed up and churning out a few tunes more appropriate for other parts of the Forum.

On the Riding down the Royal Mile we were sandwiched between a very loud samba band in front and a full pipes and drum crew behind. Eventually the pipes stopped playing cos the Samba Band were drowning them out

Missed Her Madge who had disappeared back into Holyrood Palace before we got there. I also missed Karine Polwart singing to Her Madge, the Chookie (as he is affectionately referred to in these parts) and the MSPs - she sang Burns and Gaughan's great 'Now Westlin' Winds' and our recent chain starter 'Follow the Heron'.

By the way, I had a chat with wee Eck Salmond, Global - he was askin' for you. (He ain't so wee - Who ate all the pies? came to mind!)

Non-PC alert - careful with your PC antennae around that Ambrose fellow and his orchestra.

good news about Karine - thanks for sharing that. The Queen is on Twitter by the way - one of my favourites. Couple of her recent tweets:

Greek Prime Minister on the phone. Wants to know if one can "lend him a tenner". Awkward
                    and
Approximately half way through a Columbo DVD box set and one third of the way through a bottle of gin.:cool2:
and we've hit the blue section on the chain again - I've yanked a few sleepers from the old-wrecked-one, so feel free to hijack any others...be quick last time we went on a rope ladder to the moon via some wobbles from Wilf

Jings JC, the full significance of your post has just sunk in. Congrats

I've been thru the list, but can't find your name. Maybe they just haven't updated the website?

What did you get in on? the Independence in World Music ticket perhaps? Gets my vote.

Done. His new show is on in Manchester and we should all go.

I'm determined to see it at some point....just can't make that one, but reckon it should have a shameless plug here.

I'm sure I'm not breaking any confidences Global by saying that he talked to me about the quality of Alyth Golf Course and how you could find truffles in the woods there - I said I usually went to Thorntons for mine.

I did see a few of those folk on the MSP list including a guy I was at school with - it's a nice building and beautifully set at the foot of Arthur's Seat - Eck's right hand man, Mr Swinney, told me that Karine was wonderful. I was jealous that I'd missed her.

Thanks to Mr Sherratt and for the pleasure of any other aficionados- a few very good links.... I can once again forgive him the Russ Conway, and my memory was jogged back to After The Ball... - nothing to do with John Fahey.
