Now we need to apologise to Zoot Horn Rollo - master of the plangent slide. Hope it's put right with a coupla entries on the p/list, but there are many more possibilities.

Call out for Mr Lat-Lit !

It's a brilliant list but I did fele like a bit of a dunce in this area when I accessed it a month or two ago. I'm not sure why except in broad terms I probably have a head for overall sounds and arrangements - ie colour - more than individual instruments with any specifics being in the lyrics. Had I been a musical anything, I'd have been a producer, an arranger, a "seguer", an "associationist", a writer and - those who have heard it will laugh at this one, a vocalist rather than an instumentalist. Name six records featuring the xylophone etc. My mind just goes blank. But I will see what I can add with a fair bit of research. Sometimes I see one or two things and a whole lot of similar stuff then tumbles from me head.

It's my birthday and I can't think of anything music-wise to mark it other than a Ewan MacColl song which mentions my new age and has had a miserable sort of resonance for five years. It is also the fifteenth anniversary of Kirsty's departure. On the plus side, I had a meal out yesterday at a really lovely restaurant and I have a spectacular Christmas tree!!

That's very kind and I do appreciate it. Many thanks Serial, ferney and JC. I've now been given three birthday tunes - John's "The Whip", my father's "Happy Birthday" on his electronic keyboard and Neil Young's "Long May You Run" from a forum pal in Switzerland. The latter is probably the only song I know to mention the year I was born. He must have a good memory but then he is still under 40, just, albeit a world expert in 1970s' rock music. Of course, nearly all of us emanate from the middle of the last century (ish).

Apologies for missing the big day L/L I'm assuming there was enough cake to make it memorable.

On a separate topic, is there any enthusiasm for a Northern Lights playlist on the Spottle? Both what we've heard and our own contributions. How far North?
                          May be a pleasant distraction...

I'd suggest above the latitude of 56.5, Global, which lets the Northern parts of mainland and island Scotland in with their Nordic leanings, Global, but we don't get distracted by the cultural haven that is Dundee. Also means we can have the 'Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen' in - I mean where else do you start?

Well, here's the link to what there is so far.

Glad to report so far we've been spared JC's Aberdonian footer chants (although I did find a British pub version I was tempted to use...)

It's only a matter of time, Global, as long as I am given enough latitude.
