Lat, 'In spite of Ourselves' was the title track of a record that JP made in which he dueted with a pile of Nashville gals - as well as the wonderful Iris there's Emmylou and Lucinda and the rather excellent Connie Smith among others; and Dolores Keane joining him on 'A Town this size'.

Ah, I had seen/heard several collaborations but hadn't twigged that there was a CD. My starting point with the excellent John Prine was when he stepped in at a festival for Nanci Griffith who hadn't been able to get there. Consequently, "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" with and without her is a favourite.

Following my post a few days ago with its reference to A Filetta, they have just released a new CD. I have seen them live too, expecting them to be in the vein of Lo Cor de la Plana and hence full of fun and jamboree but it was a much more serious and contemplative business, albeit equally impressive.

Really enjoying Guinean singer Amara Touré, on this occasion performing N'nijo with the Black and White Ensemble uncovered by the Analogue Africa folks. Seems he only recorded 10 tracks up to 1980, some with L'Orchestra Massako, and it is not known what happened to him after that. That great Afro-Cuban sway to it - sounds like Orchestra Baobab may have been listening...and some grand sax on this track.
