My weakness has been unearthed - I'm a total sucker for ANY segue involving Florence Nightingale.

No problems - and what a voice. Mahalia Jackson springs to mind - (in an entirely different context).

.......I liked that Scottish one that John put on yesterday or the day before. A bit Pogues like.

My work rate has temporarily dwindled this week. I have had to spend a long time using my pen as a sword to slay the system's dragons. This continues but they all have bellies made of jelly and none ever shopped in the strong moral fibre or basic humanity departments.

This afternoon will also see an absence of Florence Nightingales. It is "Friday Fortnight" so I'm off again to Butthead and Beavis Villas. All of the visitors are now referred to as "Mr Effluent" and that includes the page 3 models.

I am driving there this week in a Bond Minicar. It is easy to park on their foreheads. I'm also going to sing "Wanderin' Star" in a high falsetto and then do "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" in the style of Tom Waits on 60 Marlboro. That should please 'em.

Then I'm going to run out to the nearest forest and live on a tree for six days, pretending I'm one of the Lotus Eaters.

I hope to "see" you all soonest.

.....I came back early. It poured down with rain the whole time, the whole venue was a mud bath, and then Bono turned up. It was too much for me.

I am pleased that we now have a far more sensible number of songs to aim for. I've been worrying for a long time what I will be doing in my eighties. Now I know. Of course, by then we will need to compete with others to get a track one year in advance of release and pay £150 a year just to be a Spotify badge holder.

....I've mucked it up again. I've got our list separated out into a grid again with big pictures of the record covers. Must have hit the wrong button. And I can't find the instructions I was given last time about how to sort it out.

Lat, Have you tried 1. switchin' it off, and then 2. switchin' it back on again?.....or in the case of Bono, ignore Step 2....

Go into the playlist, across the top you will see the headings
Track, Buy, Artist, Time (and more)
one of those will probably have a little black triangle in it (Albums I suspect). Double click in that heading area to make that little black triangle go away and order should be restored.
which is, of course, one of the Great Lies with computers - that they can be orderly in the first place...anyway that's a different story.

Suggest you start either indoctrinating family now, develop a younger cloned version, or Artificial Intelligence technology which can replicate your taste and do the job for you.....
[and I had missed a zero out]

Thanks to both of you. JC - your solution didn't work yesterday but I just went in this morning to follow GT's instructions and found that yours had worked overnight. The new minor celebrity living next door to me in a modest low priced 2 bedroom bungalow turns out to have the initials DB, is big in the tabloids, and has been close to J who has greater assets and who many will know. Top ten hits a decade or so ago and some outstanding "business". Life gets weirder by the minute. I long for normality to be restored - Lat.

On that topic here's the latest technology as reported elsewhere on the BBC. Now - hand's up who remembers the story of the Emperors New Clothes? Rory is not actually shaking hands with anyone. Maybe that's what happens if you wear sunglasses indoors? Normality - too late, never existed.

but on, as we say, with the music...

Lat, please don't use my previous instructions to sort this one out - in my experience it only works with computers, photocopiers, kettles, cars, mixers, shredders etc!

I find switchin' off to be quite handy, but only in a kind of suspended hibernation sort of way.

..and as a slight, but trendy, aside

                            Fascinating fact - Randy Newman

Nice one Randy - great film. Preferred the tune in episode 1, mind you

Thanks guys. I have always liked Randy Newman a lot - I've got several of his cds and would really like to see him live. That's a great clip. So many good songs - my favourite is probably Dayton Ohio 1903 but almost everything he has done is class.
