    Ta.

Been away and then otherwise engaged with drain responsibilities, a vital practice instrument going down and its supplier has gone elusive and
then our long-term, principal supplier went under on Tuesday

    How's the leg ?

And thanks for stimulating the memory cell on Buster Benton - his spider stew is also recommended. That AK borrowed my vinyl
for the nation way, way back. Told the listeners he was spoiling them. It was true !

      Leg sort of ok.

I'm sure you'll find loads of stuff in the chain to cheer you up. Sounds like you may need that? Or you can always type 'pilarm' into the Spotty search box.

I meant to say earlier that mash-up of Max Richter and Dinah Washington is sans pareil. I already have the Max Richter (even before those Shutter Island and certain other programmes got hold of it), but what an atmospheric match. Lat - I think it may have been one of your great moments, thanks.

three Buster B albums on Spotty.

Have you come across Kitty, Daisy & Lewis ? I am reliable informed by younger people that they are as hip as a zip on a trip. Actually sounds better on vinyl, but not too shabby on the Spootster.

Actually I'm more than a bit cheery !

Although the nation will need lots of jolly liftin' songs on 'The Big Day Of Misery' ( 24th January apparently )

Every radio show should be obliged to play a yodelin' song.

And every tv show a yodelin' contest.

Anyway, must go and see if the oatcakes ( Staffs variety ) have defrosted.

They're anti-depressants apparently. We ate a lot when that Michael Hurley accidentaly ended up staying here for five nights ...

I know them well, round here they are called Derbyshire oatcakes.

but hey, it's not the name that you eat, and they're great...just to forestall the inevitable discussion with JC, these are actually made of plastic and used as coasters in England. JC - don't let people trick you into thinking these are edible.

Aren't those pancakes? We have them with lemon juice here. Next time though we'll adventure with the miso ramen seche.

                  No, they're oatcakes !

This is the regional dish of North Staffordshire, food of the Gods. The recipe used to be a closely guarded secret but now they can be enjoyed by all.

Ours come from the shop hidden behind that off-road vehicle. ( Closed Mondays )

He's right Lat - they really are a different beast. er, cake, er thing. I'm reliably informed that Derbyshire ones are larger and thicker than Staffordshire ones. Make of that what you will.

Here's anther recipe covering both varieties.
some kind of oatcake noat the oats.

Oh, ok. I don't think I've tried them and perhaps I should do. I love that Dinah Washington/Max Richter too. A discovery and one of my favourites. I will be going back through our list soon to highlight some of the other ones that have really appealed to me and to ask questions.

K, D and L were very popular with Rob da Banc in 2008 and I may have caught them at the first Camp Bestival. Nice location. Good for the Jurassic Coast. I did it the weekend before Womad but there were possibly more children there than adults and frequent "Hi-De-Hi" wake up calls. Won't rush back in a hurry.

Still, it was a nice event overall and I got to see Chuck Berry, The Imagined Village, Suzanne Vega and King Creosote, among many others. Kevin Rowland even turned up late one night in a tent as a slightly eccentric DJ to play northern soul records.

interesting - I'll tell the young fans who didn't think they had ever been over here.

Yes, I remember now. They were playing as we were lugging the tents etc in on the first day. Earlyish on the Friday. I'm pretty sure. The next bit sounds a bit like imagination but I swear they were near the jousting tent on the Saturday and said something friendly. It was that kind of event. It wasn't easy to distinguish between the punters and performers.

I like them a lot - quality - but once I had seen Chuck Berry I was on cloud nine for the rest of the weekend. None of the clips do the performance justice. They sound so raggedy but it was actually storming and as electric as an eighty-something will ever be. Think I mentioned at the time on the other forum that CB Jnr had to drag him off the stage to comply with the timing sensitivities of those half and a quarter of his age in the Council.

Anyway, back to tonight and Dub Colossus bring back memories of CG. Do you recall that he interviewed them in what was probably his final year? I still like Tizita Dub best not least because it reminds me a little of Sean Flynn by The Clash but you know all this because you have heard it from me before. Still, any excuse for it:

.....So we reach the point from connections with Lard, then Radcliffe and Maconie, that marks The Chain itself.

Perhaps it was my age but I found the sales figures for "Rumours" so bewildering that I was never tempted to listen to it from beginning to end. The regularly played highlights were enough. Until about three years ago, that is, when I did listen to it in its entirety. I was staggered by its ordinariness and, from today's perspective, absence of commercial appeal. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it is a wholly bad album but I just don't get its huge popularity. What was the mindset of the record buying public then?

Anyway, symbolically, it might have been expected that The Chain would mark the ending of our list. This though would be a misreading. The Chain goes on and on and that song is merely just one link to further weird and wonderful musical things.

........Expanding horizons. Loved what I discovered last night. Was on a real jelly roll. Australian cowgirls, a terrific father and daughter, Eire meets India, some early Afro-Cubans, and so much more.

That guy's programme "Guilty Pleasures"? Know this isn't very "worldly" but, sorry, I'm just bowled over by Henry the Van and its (inadvertent?) cross-reference in (part) lyrical shape to "Simple Twist of Fate":

Excellent song there - yeah, I noticed you had been busy and some fine tunes in there indeed. And it was great to hear Canoe Song again - I used to play it a lot in the old vinyl days - what's that Paul Robeson like - gets me right here!
