There's seems to be a glitch in 'The Chain' at my end - about 30 tunes have appeared at the beginning of the list somewhere before Chinese Cafe which I think G started the list with - is this the PP in there or what? Of course it might be a problem at my end and I'm just following my own chain these days - that would explain the lack of chain action down at the bottom end of my list - perhapr to all of you I am a seeming a bit off-kilter - that might help explain - suggestions in words of two or less syllables!

I am losing "Added" and "User" in a few places - Irem, Regina and the Ronettes but not Ray, Elias and Tom. Bizarre. (I really enjoyed the Joe Haywood).

Probably a sequencing error. Have a look for small black triangles in the title bar, if you find one double click on it to make it go away. I've done a fuller explanation on this on another thread for Lat somewhere.
There is though, beyond doubt, an update synchronisation problem.
Still would rather have it than not... And I enjoyed my little Hubba and Bubba sequence.

I think I have discovered what happens when the occasional detail is lost from my Spotty list. The name of the person who has put in a song and the time at which the song was added disappear when by coincidence I am adding a song when someone else is doing the same thing. Don't know how to fix this but it isn't a huge problem.Last edited by Guest; 17-01-11, 12:28.

Spotify alternatives
You're right.
Anyway, as promised earlier, Here's a list (incomplete obviously) of Spotify competitors:
Rhapsody
Blip (may just be US)
Mog
Napster
Passionato (classical music only)
we7
Last
All the big boys (Sony, Walmart, Sky) are playing in this area too, but I'm not posting their links.
Now if anyone has the inclination to check these out and compare them to Spotty they have more time than me....
But, at the very least, and at first glance,we do have alternatives...Last edited by Globaltruth; 17-01-11, 15:50. Reason: I looked at one, AnywhereCD which looks like it has gone bust. not all of these are going to make it....

Yes, interesting. In my mind, the future was Spotty and if that ran into difficulty there were no roads sideways or backwards. That was wrong. I had also confused Live with Last. Obviously I wasn't having a good week. As for Rhapsody, I think that was the one I had at the very beginning and then left because it was file sharing. A lot of them changed though and became legit so that may be one.
(This is a real irrelevant imposition and I won't make it a regular feature. Some months ago I fitted a spur switch with a neon light in my airing cupboard. Fine for several months then it suddenly started getting hot. So I took it out yesterday and replaced it with a new one. All good again except that the neon light stays permanently on. The tank is warming and cooling normally according to whether the switch is on and off. It is just the light. Annoying and bizarre).

I'm really enjoying this chain - lots of high points for me - Moroka Baptist Choir, Dave Swarbrick and Martin Carthy, Ayer's Rock Drone to name but three recent tunes that come quick to mind; but Lat, that Venezuelan number by Serenata Guayanesa was a total belter - very nice one!

John, I do agree on the Seranata Guayanesa. Good album cover too. I also love that track attributed to Antonio Carlos Jobim. New to me. We all seem to have been singing in the High Street this afternoon. Rampant capitalism hits our Spotty lists. Good to see that we still had the time to pick up a few Crumbs but then we are all on the breadline.
Global, Rock n Roll McDonalds by Wesley Willis. His Greatest Hits Volume 1??? Can't wait to hear the full back catalogue. Loved every minute of that one but then I've always had high quality musical tastes. Lat.

Wesley Willis hmm - I've got a few more like him in the collection, as a resulting of reading this book a few years ago:
The Key of Z (a WFMU presenter - bet PS knows him)
Small irregular doses of most of these people is best I've found...and I guess we'll discuss Florence Foster Jenkins some other time (she is on Spotify - it's still a bit early in the morning for anything like that really but as a treat I've slipped her into the chain). Eilert Pilarm also on Spotty and you should listen to him any time.
And yes, the links in the chain remain fascinating. It's an enjoyable activity
