GT, I got in a pickle when I realised that I had posted four in a row. It was looking like a monologue so I deleted a little of the text in the third and fourth posts and placed the rest in the first two. Then I realised the dates were all out-of-sync and after that I couldn't delete the third and fourth posts as I had anticipated. What a horrible muddle it was. If you as kindly Host could delete the latter two - ie the blank posts 1037 and 1038 - I'd be very grateful. It would make the thread tidier and far more sensible.

I'm not sure that this is quite the same Kaba as I am placing on the list but it is close and I am very keen on it. I think it was probably you who introduced me to this kind of music originally. If so, I am very pleased that you did. The entire CD is brilliant. -

Thank you for rescuing it GT. This calls for a celebration with something you would have considered for inclusion and another that is most unlikely to fit into that category. On the more surprising one, all readers might wish to be aware that there is now a formal WM forum complaints procedure. All you need to do is write to Ian Anderson. He likes this sort of thing and encourages people to enjoy it. Obviously he should therefore be the one to justify it. And yes I do have that message he sent me. Thanks.

GT, I have commented on your fine tracks on the other thread. Do add more soon to cheer us up on this autumn day. I have been quite restrained by my standards but here come the next four. Are you sure this isn't looking like an obvious 150 rather than 100?

Bezawork Asfaw looks different in every picture that I see. However, I am pretty certain that the woman in the first clip, with an excellent band, is not an imposter. Some countries have the ballad. Others have the tizita. The tizita can be very repetitive and miseries might think of it as dull. However, when it is right it can draw someone in like no ballad can do. No one draws people in like Bezawork Asfaw. This might have been one of the few ever stadium "gigs" where the audience was at least 99% male:

Sometime next week, there must be scope on the parallel thread for including a live performance by Camaron de la Isla and Paco de Lucia. It will begin with the inevitable ultra serious interview that you can just about see through cigarette smoke. Only then will the music commence as if it has been literally wrenched as poetry from the earth. For now, I am providing the recorded version of 'Como El Agua' which is no less remarkable. As it is also the easiest to identify, that is the one going onto the Spotify list:

GT, it was very worthwhile to have a solo recording of Salif Keita, particularly from Moffou. It is also good to see Lhasa de Sela who is another who brings back memories of CG. In fact, I've just listened to the latter again. Magical - and a sad early loss.

Alasdair Fraser has been mentioned a couple of times. I wouldn't question his place in a world music list. You might though have seen my comments on the O'Carolan thread about the past overselling of celtic music. I doubt that I need to explain further here. But I had in mind the James Galways and Mary O'Haras, pleasant enough though they were, not to mention all of the Christmas CDs in the 99p shop by unknown artists. They are far removed from the varied and vibrant traditional and contemporary celtic music we like to discuss regularly on this board. As you know, that has for a very long time been among my favourite music of all time.

The piece I have chosen by Samuel Yirga for the list is 'Ambassel in Box Revisited'. It is a pity CG never got to see him live as he wished. I have found some live performances by Mayra Andrade on YT but I have chosen the studio version of 'Stória Stória'.

There are as many versions of Quilapayún as of the Beach Boys, and tensions to match, but I hope to have found the one with Willy Oddo in an early clip of 'La muralla'. And then the "must include" recording of 'Secret Agent' by the legendary Tony Allen.

Excellent. Thanks for those John. I too like the second. The number of Damon collaborations is, of course, now huge. Some interesting choices from you and Global. I am not sure that I had properly listened to any of those ones before. The Brozman collaboration is good. I also like the incredible "Jin Jin" song he did with Takashi Hirayasu and have that on CD.

Two of my next four are linked to earlier comments about Strummer and Jones. I have been pretty sure for a long time that the similarity between their "Sean Flynn" and "Tizita Dub" by Dub Colossus is remarkable. I have also now convinced myself that the small but striking phrase "oh mi corazon" in "Spanish Bombs" echoes one in the sublime "Beni Baralé" by Bembeya Jazz.

You will see that Miriam Makeba is here. Less obviously perhaps, so is Joji Hirota. In my humble opinion, his version of "Esashi Oiwake" on "The Gate" was one of the great performances. However, little of "The Gate" is on the internet. While there are recent versions of the song, I feel that his voice is sadly not as it used to be. Nevertheless, a newer version still merits inclusion.
