And that 'Country Hard Hitters' is an old favourite. There were two volumes I think, knocked out a music fan over Merseyside
          way.

The mystery endures - so much astonishing stuff out there and so little broadcast by those privileged to do so.

It's been amazing to refind Memphis Minnie this year - such a voice - on the old message boards I was directed to a great article about a gig by her in the early forties - must go look it out again. That Furry Lewis track is just a stormer - they're all here on the playlists if the platter spinners want to come and look Paul.

              Attention Scottish readers...

              Both of you.

              'Lowlands' wins Turner prize

not well received by a live audience apparently
t was first performed beneath three bridges over the River Clyde in her native Glasgow, but for the past two months has been playing in an empty room at Tate Britain
Can you recommend any other versions of this tune on Spotify please?

I can't make head nor tail of this one...

Here's an old bit of the Corries and Ronnie Brown with his iced barnet and the fine voice of Roy Williamson.

Thought I'd refresh this old playlist - it's a bit retro (as usual) and a bit country too, with a novelty or two. (actually it feels a bit like a Desmond Carrington effort)

John - I don't know as much about Groucho Marx as I should do. Is that really him singing? I confess that I went to Wikipedia to find out more. Among the less likely facts was this one: "He developed friendships with rock star Alice Cooper - the two were photographed together for Rolling Stone magazine.....". I'd like to see that pic!

I've also been reading the other threads. "Planxty" would be a good Spotty list. In fact, if we make it through December, 2011 has to be the year for a Corrigan compilation. I name that cd "Planxty and Plaintisee". Producer PatrickOD.

........This contemporary recording of Carolan's Ramble to Cashel has some meaning for me:

Carolan's Ramble to Cashel by Northern Lights. From the cd "Celtic Odyssey"

A Dutch contributer to Amazon says of "Harp and Hammer Dulcimer", the cd on which the recording was first found: "Somewhere in the early 90s, I accidentally came upon Northern Lights performing on the streets of Arnhem (Netherlands). I immediately loved their music and bought this CD. Now, after say about 15+ years, this is still one of my favorite CD's and I still play it"

At around that time, I was inter-railing with friends across Western Europe. In Amsterdam, or was it Haarlem, the same thing happened to me. They were playing away from the hustle and bustle in a quiet square and it seemed quite magical. I often revisit the cd and find O'Carolan especially pleasing for calmness.

Right in the heart of the party season I wondered if we needed a few songs about parties and the likes to keep us hoppin' and boppin'. Post your entries to this address.
