I wonder if that should be our next playlist?

'songs and poems about things we like'

Y'know, raindrops-on-roses, cute little kittens & cuddly bears- that sort of fresh unsullied image

The title of today's essay : "Golf wear - Is the time right for change?"

I lost all of the PPE songs 24 hours ago but they came back again the following morning. I am seeing the figure 750 in my mind and like the look of it.

It would be very good to have the garden opened so we can let in 500. The shoobs have stopped at a number that seems unkempt but here I might quibble a tad unnecessarily.

Some of our recent works have been broad. Whither the narrow modesty of a summer or autumn when all of the blooms have been taken? What now the fate of poverty and race relations so absorbed are they into manifesto?

I think about transport. There might be explorations in space. I ponder over whether we could still do weather. Cartoon characters are up my street but not necessarily everyone elses.

There are many other options. The sea. Golf. Olympians. Poems and stuff. Numbers.

      It's all natty, even dapper.

One of the problems with the playlists is how to have a topic that can embrace music from across the world - because of restricted language knowledge we tend to have a US/UK/Caribbean centred element with a few bits of French and Spanish in there - actually that's probably a bit unfair given Lat's efforts on the PED playlist, but I haven't had a lot of time to explore. Anyway the playlist, 'music not in the English language' threw up some terrific stuff from across the world and I'd like to suggest a couple of things - perhaps islands as a theme - songs about islands, or from islands - there might have to be a couple of rules like 'Is Australia an island?'; 'music from island chains would be fine'; and we would have to avoid 'Oman is an island', of course'.

The second would be a kind of chain, but where you have to move between loosely adjoining countries - the problem would be how to make the jumps across oceans and seas. Movement back and forward and up and down between countries would be fine, and see where it goes. Maybe working down from Arctic to Antarctic might be an approach - for example, a meander from Iceland to South Africa, or Siberia to New Zealand - we could have an interesting journey from Cape Horn to Cape of Good Hope - as you can see I haven't thought this through but you get the gist. Thoughts?

I like both these ideas but want to avoid them turning into exercises of geographic knowledge...and some of the more spontaneous ones have also been good.

How about something developed from CG's ping pong, maybe 1 person posts songs from a country - maybe one (me), maybe 100 (Lat), and we stay on that country until all 3 of us have posted at least 1
Hmm, would it be fun though?

Alternatively we could just do a chain

I don't mind. Thank you John for that version of Ruby. I hadn't heard it before and was surprised by the subtle and sympathetic treatment.

The current list has been very interesting to me because it has led me into many areas of research. I have been able to build on my music knowledge via Google of so many different subjects - Latin American politics, the Korean War, the Velvet Revolution, Vietnam, the Arab Spring, Africa, India and more. With some, I still feel that it is just the surface.

And thank you John for the treats in my in basket. Mrs GT introduced me to Blind Willie J's music a long time ago. I started off wondering why on Earth he was singing about the Titanic...deciphered those growled out lyrics, did a bit of pre Internet research and understood a bit more about this sometimes wicked world.

              As an aside...

Anyone care to suggest appropriate songs?

In my experience Global, the answer is almost always the Bonzos, in these circumstances.
                  Can't decide between

                  and
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

                    'appropriate'...............................?!

they're such great pictures globaltruth posts - there's nothing that i can add that make them any more powerful. in fact the reverse!

so it's a hard task .... but jc's choices are good, especially on a friday - the very finest day of the week, when 'grotesque girations' are welcomed!

Yes, really terrific pictures on several threads. I feel that we should bring PEDJ to a close shortly. 1300 or 1350 max? It has been extraordinary learning for me and has helped me to answer some long term questions. Inbox items and e-mails gratefully received. One day I will learn how to send them. Anyhow, this is the track of so many that is currently delighting me the most:

                      Teddy Afro · Nahiom Favorites, Vol. 19 · Song · 2008

You're right there Lat. it is a great work, I find it oddly reassuring that there is still a fair old bit of anger and passion out there - condensed in this playlist. The show stopper track for me on there today was Ruby Hunter singing City Streets - an extraordinary voice, a wonderful setting. Thanks for posting.
I'm investigating the whole Aborigine Soul album as a result.
As for PEDJ, I think we should just close it when we have the next one...suggestions later

Yes, on second thoughts, perhaps it should go to 1500. It doesn't feel complete.

The loss of Ruby was very sad. Shellie Morris is a good ambassador for the Black Arm Movement. I would though like to see more of her personality in her songs.

Could the new playlist be music to listen to while working/studying/reading? Or is that a bit dull?

Just in case you fancy it...

Congrats Lat - you have virtually single handed, hit the double millennium - you deserve a gong - CDM perhaps might be appropriate.
