I hear about twitter but don't really know what it is. I prefer this message board. As for Spotify - a different matter entirely - it may even be the best thing about the internet - even better than youtube.

For all B Wilson's great songs, Lat, I struggle to think of a good Beach Boys cover.

Yer social networking - leads to notworking

I use Twitter, but under a(nother) different name - there are actually quite a few active World Music posters on there, as well as people like Eliza Carthy, Marry Waterson, Andy Cutting, Fiona Talkington, Max Reinhardt et al. I've recently unfollowed the 'official' r3 twitter stream though as it was tedious and dull.

There are also some entertaining characters masquerading
      I hope they are masquerading...

if I stumble on anything interesting I usually post it back here though on the around the schedules thread...

Twitter definitely has its place in the social networking panoply, and is particularly good for tuning into the zeitgeist (Which is probably also a German WM radio station).
Good place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Facebook - I'm registered on there but rarely visit. whatever happened to myspace?

Spotify = addictive. And with people like Geofflikesmusic pointing us at rarities and whole new genres (the 30's shanghai divas being a good example) continues to be a valuable asset. Not sure what the free version is like anymore - the ads were bad, and, as I recall, don't they now restrict the amount you listen to? I've gone premium and never regretted it.... But to get it, you should just be able to click on the link to a playlist then you should be prompted for a download.
      Here's the latest playlist...

But yes, I agree, this forum is the place I like to hang out.

Although in the good old tradition of fairness and balance it has to be said there are other forums....

I've whacked the original cover version of Riverman onto the playlist as there were 2 votes for it. Personally I prefer the remix, but I reckon on the desert island I'd probably do my own remix anyway...Lat & I have posted our 8, one more from GLM & JC. And of course, endless opportunity for changing. I've also sent it to PS...

When my wife found out that her two musical highlights of the year had arrived courtesy of you Mister Globaltruth she asked me to pass on the thanks. For your interest they were your timely announcement about Pokey and the Boys that enabled us to see them in St Andrews, and this CD.
        http://www.discord.co.uk/Awake-My-He...semble/CC02732 which she loves.

So thanks from her to you, GT.

By the way, does Paul know about D.I.D.?

          I thought we'd done that ? !

Does this mean that we're in there with the few, the very few, who have been asked on twice ?

It is an honour bestowed by GT - it's 8 musical good tunes heard this year whether they came from this year or not - and you can change them while its open.

( apologies to anyone looking in from Fenton - and yes, that includes you, Frank Bough ... )

                  PS
The real Fenton is not dissimilar to that Oilrig image and exactly like our Jim.

It's a pleasure - genuinely. And perhaps not coincidentally, Mrs GT also numbers the somewhat oddly named Arsis Handbell Players amongst her faves of the year just gone. It's regularly on the digital turntable...along with 85 Years of Sacred Harp recordings for which I have a certain PS to thank. what goes around tends to go around.

                      anyway.....

Attention all playlistplayers - DID 2 will be closing shortly to enable the launch of an exciting new playlist idea....more details later today.

Well, on the quiet Spotfy have changed things, so I can leave it open -good news is that you can now have more than 1 collaborative playlist on the go at any time.

So - the new one is here...

and the subject is FILM. Music and film - why haven't we thought of it before?
Not just your favourite film soundtracks (max. of 2 tracks from any 1 soundtrack ?), but also tracks that you think should be in films, and 'films', of course, includes TV, and theatre - any drama that moves.

Glad you like it - I'm also loving it, now we just need to tempt Lat and Geoff...remembering that it can include music that SHOULD be used in a soundtrack too.

I'm looking forward to Geoff's submissions from Shanghai in the 30's - those divas must have spent countless hours under the arc lights being captured in grainy monochrome. Or any of those other great ethnic album tracks with high filmic potential.

And the 'usual' from Lat - if you can describe subversive, startling and original as 'usual'

Plus some new posters would be nice (that's a hint Zola/Zizwai et al)

Digging the NiƱo Rota JC - stands up so well on its own. I'm transported back to the lemon groves...
