And so to the next - it's winter

erm, I read a slightly different version of this last night - in which apparently you'd been to no. 500 on the list - Greenmoor, wherever that is. Or maybe it was a dream...difficult to tell nowadays.

I thought I was in that dream too and I thought it was Exmoor but I've got a cold and the paracetemol plays strange tricks on the brain.
Winter, you say Global - it's 15C out there this morning - lovely, sunny and autumnal.

Winter is over - 100 tracks are quite enough... To tide us over till Xmastide I've re-shared Places, think there is some aural mileage left. The imagination is a place.

Wow, 898. How did that happen?

I believe that is a quote from Methuselah on his birthday, Lat - not sure if he was talking about years or weans.

Well I did give Oban a couple of Menches over the weekend which made me think I should highlight their fireworks fiasco on Saturday.
A technical hitch saw all the fireworks at Oban Community Firework display on November 4 2011 released with in a minute.

Oh dear. The children must have been disappointed which is a real shame. Perhaps it says that 150 years of Oban is enough. Time to hand it over to Glencruitten Golf Club perhaps.

Still, it was far better than Lord Mandelson's 2000 fiasco. The only time I will ever be crushed together with thousands of others on a London bridge to witness precisely nothing and then spend more than five hours travelling the 15 miles to get home.

I am rather proud of my contributions yesterday. I stumbled on quite a few gems that could sadly be hidden in the volume. Later, I composed and then submitted a verse for a song on the next cd of a well-known female singer.

If she likes it better than the others, she is going to perform it live. I have reasonably high hopes for it. It was frighteningly easy to produce the kind of unusual that would be entirely suited to her unique talent.

I don't know Lat - I've been to displays that go on and on a squib at a time - I think that might have been pretty amazing, though I imagine folk thinking - 'wow! if that's the first minute what's the other twenty-nine going to be like?'. There's a guy near us in Coupar Angus who turns out an amazing show every year - he's a bit of an award winner - that's well worth the watch though I was in a meeting nearby this year and only got the crackles and bangs ( new illness brought on by wishing you were elsewhere).

                      Any clues by the way?

Clues? Mr S has said in the past that he isn't convinced. However, contrary to the impression given on YT where she sounds awful, her performance on the second stage at Glastonbury was stunningly good. One of the best I have witnessed. And one of our favourite kora players even turned up for the occasion. Still, she is admittedly not to everyone's taste.

Do your communities dance to music as the fireworks hit the sky? I used to love it on Bastille Day when the French did. I was there for six years in a row in Ferney Voltaire. They not only had records but a band in a trailer. The band did everything from naff to zydeco and I love a bit of zydeco.

Of course being English I had to keep my mouth shut for the duration unless I remembered beforehand to put the "Ecosse" sticker on my forehead. Then it could have been Woodstock with a dash of je ne sais quoi.

Lat/Ps/ayone really - just in case you don't spot it on the other thread...there are no more places, but there are loads of covers.

No more places? Oh no. Sorry. I didn't want my marathon session to put people off. I thought we were on for a good 2500 there. Still, the new list looks good - and not so easy.

On Robert Elms programme today, it was the turn of "Lovely Day". Bill (W) beat Jill (S). Someone said that it was a ridiculous weekly feature because the originals always won. RE vehemently disagreed and said that he thought it had been 60/40.

He muttered something about publishing a list of them in the future. I hope he does sometime because I would like to see what has been featured.

the Covers list is now non-collab but still there.

and this old one is inevitably the new one

                              Aargh - only a month + 2 days away.
