New day - new playlist
ok, we have a new collaborative playlist on Spotify.
This time, as a result of extensive executive discussion and deep consideration, the following rules will be applied:
1 Instrumental only
2 Tracks from your library only
3 Any genre, any time - past, present or future. If they are from the future please also post on here an explanation of how you have bypassed the space-time continuum
4 Each track must contain at least one of the following instruments:- flugelhorn
- kora
- oud
- Ronkster
5 Actually rule 4 isn't a genuine rule, the Ronkster hasn't been invented yet. See Rule 3.
6 Only one track per artist
7 A limit of 200 tracks.
8 Or maybe not.
Here it is in all it's putative glory

I did try earlier to sign up for this one but I'm getting a message about signing a Spotify contract. Is this a new thing applicable to all? It has a lot of words in it.

It's being transmitted to all users today Lat.
How many will read it is anyone's guess.
Three or four maybe ..
Global - a rules list.
You've discovered my Achilles heel !

Thanks Paul. I have sorted it out now. Have signed up and will treat it kindly. Thank you for the tracks in my inbox. Appreciated and I will get round to them. It is just that there's been so much stuff lately on the wireless. Lat.

.....I'm now struggling. Realise that I don't have many instrumentals. I'm assuming that when the rules say "must be from your library" this refers only to cds and vinyl records. Unfortunately I don't have rooms of them. Maybe a thousand in total. Most of the vinyl is also on cd so it is about 800 in actual albums. A very small number of my cds - not many - are free ones from music magazines and I've not really bought anything in the last year. The music library in my memory is much bigger. Arguably huge.
(Actually, no criticism intended but linking it to our collections feels like a bit of a time warp. I have broadened my music interests considerably in the past year. If I were to win the lottery, I'd be buying more world, jazz, folk, cajun, appalachian, classical, even country. I knew a fair amount but never had the time to go into it all with quite the same attention to detail before).Last edited by Guest; 17-10-11, 20:49.

Let us struggle forward not anxiously, but with composure, Lat - that's what I sometimes say.
By the way Global I noticed late last night that there was a second Quiet City up on the instru+mental list - personally I think you can seldom get enough QC by AC- I have to say I have been enjoying a lot of these instrumental tunes - did wonder about that Jimi Hendrix guy who seemed to be indulging in a bit too much chit chat - still I don't think it fell foul of rule 19a(subsection(ii)c).(Don't want to come over all Alain Rolland after all).

I have found a few more. New interpretations of mine -
1. One track per artist but you can count collaborations as being different, ie J Strummer and J Strummer and the Mescaleros.
2. One track per artist but this applies to individual contributors - two or more people can have A Copland.
3. Must be from your own collection - yes but not necessarily from the same album that is on spotify.
Or have I got it wrong?

Oh well I've got loads on Spotify lists. One of my quieter projects in the past couple of months has been to do some new private lists. Well sixteen actually. Each has got between 75 and 250 tracks:
America Early
America Late
Celtic
Classical and Opera
Country and Cajun
Dance/Hip-Hop/Electronica
Folk
Gospel/Rock n Roll/Blues
Jazz
Reggae and Ska
Soul
UK and Ireland Early
UK and Ireland Late
World - Africa
World - Not Africa
Worldish
I've just added Maceo. There are quite a lot of tracks that are not quite instrumentals but almost. Some have a bit of talk. Some have samples. I'd like to add Dave and Ansell Collins and the Todd Terry Project but I realise that this is potentially a very controversial area.Last edited by Guest; 18-10-11, 10:31.
