Changed days indeed Paul - Andy was struggling to get in contact with Dr Bombodee back then.

    - also on this show is an absolutely cracking version of 'Travelling Light' by the Dayton Family from North Yorkshire (I think) but every time I look the group up I get a bunch of rappers from the States - it'd be a board hit in my opinion if only you could hear it.

Well there's a thing - we saw the Deighton family live in a leisure centre in Alfreton quite a few years ago (about 20 probably), and after buying their CD we got talking to them.
The son, Arthur, was particularly fab as he was going down a lone, slightly angry, angst-filled electric avenue [getting the odd disapproving look from his Mum and Dad], whilst the rest were developing an odd fusion sound led by Dave.
        Overall it worked really well.

        Lovely family, great music.

I remember they stopped performing a while back and Dave was making a living out of instrument making. However their daughter was trying to establish herself as a solo artist, moved to London....

I've just this minute checked their Wikipedia entry and, sadly, she died of cancer last year. That is truly sad.

They do have 1 album on Spotify...

          The Deighton Family · Album · 2006 · 13 songs

..and it took 3 moves to get them on the chain.

Thanks for reminding me about them JC.

In my ideal world they would be challenging Ad*le for Number 1 spots globally...

            Awful ...

Part of their appeal , I thought, just like that Brid Fiddler, was the way they took and shook
well-known songs, gave them a shower and then re-vitalised, set them free again.

Forget Facebook - it was the days before spellchecks where you found out how to spell stuff - thanks for the upgrade chaps.

The Deightons , without doubt, " Barnsley's finest South Moluccan string band " were on
Ian Anderson's Rogue Records which has now become this :

And this is the smoothie who, back then, sent a cassette of the family to fRootsman Ian

I'm bound to agree...Mr Eldon has also collected a lot of the old sea-shanties (from Pop Mainprize and people like that) too.

As I recall Vaughan Williams (wasn't he a newsreader too at some point) started the same way, but I don't think ever recorded 'Dancin' in the Dark'?
May be wrong - would be on the rare UndreamtSounds label -
but I hope this means that in a few decades time one of the Proms will be dedicated to orchestral working of Jim's interpretations of that music?

Still on this same tape and I've noticed that Andy was playing 'Wagon Wheels' by Rosalie Deighton from her record '21 days' in the lead up to The DF.

                      Huh?

the counter on the chain seems to have gone mad - it's now retrogressed to 1004, meaning that The Deighton Family were rollin' home at number 1000.

No bad thing, but wha' 'appen?

Not sure where to put this but I read a very interesting article by Richard Curtis - he of Blackadder and Vic of Dib fame - about his love for the music of Mike Scott and the Waterboys. They've got a Yeats inspired record coming out later this month.
For almost 30 years, screenwriter Richard Curtis has worshipped Mike Scott of the Waterboys. He has read out his lyrics at funerals, he plays This Is The Sea to feel restored – and he cries every time he hears The Whole of The Moon

Global meant to say thanks for the Armando PJP Ecksational gastric band track - supercalifragetc.

...and Paul, as for that Darondo record - haven't heard as excellent funky soul in a right long time. Thanks a bunch.
