There are two versions of Aisling Gheal by Iarla on Spotify that I can find, here are the links:

Iarla Ó Lionáird, John Gibson · Aislingí Ceol - Music of Dreams · Song · 1994

Iarla Ó Lionáird · The Seven Steps to Mercy · Song · 1997

Now, Liam O'Flynn, whose work I do not know, is the person on the Poet & the Piper - there is much of his work on Spotify too. Here is his version of The Rocks of Bawn
    Liam O'Flynn, Paul Brady · The Given Note · Song · 1995

This features Paul Brady, of whom I must also sadly profess ignorance.

so, thank you, Padraig, for these 2 new artists.

Here is (still accompanied) a YouTube version of Aisling Gheal sung by Iarla when he was 14.
Assorted snaps of an autumnal Ireland (1999). Music: A young Iarla Ó Lionáird (14) sings Aisling Gheal as accompaniment (sean nós).Scenes: Glendalough, Sally...

the pictures of Sally Gap remind me of my daughter riding bareback there about 20 years ago - wonderful memories.

Thanks for all that Padraig and Global. Iarla appeared on one of Radcliffe's choices on this month's Songlines CD with The Gloaming - coming out in the new year it seems.

I first encountered Liam O'Flynn in the early 80s when he played solo uillean pipes on Shaun Davey's orchestral suite 'The Brendan Voyage' which I played to death for months. I still love it.

...by the way, on the subject of Paul Brady, here he is with Andy Irvine doing my favourite version of Arthur McBride.

Thanks JC. I have this image re Iarla, probably incorrect but based on his recent limited output, that he has to be persuaded indoors now and again to record or perform.
He may well have his priorities right....

          Meltdown city Arizona

Whew - 41 tracks in my inbox not only has Mr Sherratt re-discovered the delights of sending worldly stuff via Spotify. Lots of it.

But also Mr JC has recovered from his post 'no-more-World-Routes-we're-all-doomed' too. Watch this space, there may be YouTube follow ups...

          (& thanks)

I've got my inbox down to 23 and very enjoyable it has been too. Sorry for the doom - it's just I get fed up with bean counters, Global - have enough of them at work!

It'll all be fine JC, I'm sure those wonderful people at r3 will be planning some comprehensive World Music jamborees just for us.

Well here's a thing - I've now hit a bug in Spotify which means I've lost all my friends & followers... I had to delete the Spoot to free some space & when I reinstalled, they'd all gone. Thankfully I can still receive but JC please note I ain't ignoring you, it's the tech.

Found out when I tried to send you something from this...

                  Boccasedrio
Search in Spot - worth it, it's from a parallel & slightly more benevolent place...

that does happen from time to time JC, but is usually in conjunction with the odd over indulgence in the finest tincture.

(that's really only an excuse to remind you about spotify:user:trautigan:playlist:5vk9qRrIWyz4GT58XJn87O
which we did ages ago and is still worth a listen from time to time...still gets new followers too out there in shared playlist land)

right - I know there is another thread going on elsewhere about this, but I thought it may help to do a crash course for the WM listeners who use Spotify....

1 the BBC have a new facility called Playlister.
                        Here it s:
The best of the BBC, with the latest news and sport headlines, weather, TV & radio highlights and much more from across the whole of BBC Online

2 You need to sign in with your BBC ID, that's the ID we used to use when we had our own MB's. Pauses for sigh.

3 Once you've signed in, go to one of the 'WM' shows (well, I say that, but it does only seem to work with Late Junction so far I suspect that is because of World on 3's immense popularity - worried about clogging up the network) & look at the track listing, you will see the word ADD under them

4 Add the ones you want.

5 Back to Playlister, click on Your Playlist

6 It will give you some options - export to Spotify

7 Spotify will open in your browser, find the tracks it can, and give you the option to save them as a playlist.

8 That's it - you now have a playlist of your favourite tracks

Seems to work ok, some bits take longer than you think they might and it only works on a PC/laptop.
I think there is another way to do this just from inside Spotfy, by adding Playlister as an App in there - so, this is...

                        to be continued.

Thanks for the easy-to-follow instructions, G. Quite interesting - I've tended to go looking for a track at a time in the past. I suppose a combination of various programmes can be done as one playlist, so you could have a week's worth of LJ together with the, no doubt, forthcoming Wo3 shows. However I will miss Max and Mary Ann - it's like listening to the tunes from Bob's Theme Time Radio Hour without the maestro. Of course it could be interpreted as a sign of Rog's intentions re future cuts at the tower of power.

Ah yes, DIY radio - they'll just publish the playlist and we can do our own mumbling in between.

Could work, luckily no-one from the Beeb reads this so the invidious idea will get no further than your febrile imagining.

I've sent you the playlist I ended up with as an example...

The vagaries of time (aka tracks being pulled off Spotify) means that our 1001 greatest alternative Xmas tracks has withered away to a mere 988....so, festive unpop pickers, (that's mainly you JC) now is the time to plump it up

I'll alert other Spot members too.
