As to its title, I think Percy Grainger's is best : 'Irish tune from County Derry'.
The London Derriere was I think a product of one of the My Word quizzes. "Soiree with the binge on top" was another.

I can’t remember the exact circumstances but after some green energy idea using animal waste products and the gas produce from them harnessed to a refrigeration plant I suggested ‘Slurry with the fridge on top’.

It's all moot, as the Last Night has now been cancelled.

Just wondering, will ticket holders, both day and season, get refunds for these three cancelled Proms?

Right decision to cancel ! The usual rowdiness would not have been appropriate and too late to have adifferent programme with the type of audience that turns up to something that isn't really about music

It's very off-topic but talking about lyrics to certain old songs reminds me that Frederick Harvey once recorded "Blow the Wind Southerly" which included the lines:"Blow the wind south that my lover may come, blow bonny breeze and bring him safe home" .... Hmmm ... ;) ...

Right decision to cancel the LNOP as programmed, but such a missed opportunity for the BBC.

While suggestions made elsewhere of replacing the programme with this or that requiem are completely bonkers - people seem to think these performances happen by magic - it would not have taken much imagination to programme some more restrained works such as VW5 and some of the shorter Elgar pieces for TV and radio only.

                      It's an ill wind...

I've just noticed the planned programme for the Last Night included Pomp & Circumstance no. 1 'arranged by Dudley' . What vandalism might that have been?

A custom more honoured in the breach than in the observance, perhaps.

Would that be Dudley Moore, perchance ? His arrangement of Colonel Bogey in the style of LVB is timeless...

Sadly, more likely Anne of the Dudley clan.

Yes, I suppose it was Ann Dudley. But what reduces me to a Basil Fawlty-like , carpet-chewing consternation is: why 'arrange' Elgar? Didn't he do it well enough?

This arrangement was made by Anne Dudley for the 2021 Last Night in order to accommodate the smaller orchestra on a socially distanced stage due to the Covid pandemic. It surely can be dropped next year and Elgar's own instrumentation used.

This is worth drawing to Forumites’ attention:

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
