    Possibly rushed/panicked decision-making. But then do bear in mind that the death was only announced less than an hour before the performance was due to start. That's not really much time to be making a considered decision.

    That rumour PhilipT mentions might well chime with the fact that the Royal Opera cancelled the evening's performance, but were back with Salome the next evening. But then their Patron was the Prince of Wales, the Queen only being Patron of the Royal Ballet, who weren't performing, which might make a difference.
