I greatly enjoyed this Prom on the radio and the interval comments. My mind went back to standing in the Arena for Mehta's first Prom (1974 with LA Phil.) Bruckner 8 in the second half on the composer's birthday 4 Sept. Prommers sang Happy Birthday Mr Bruckner.

I caught the Afternoon on 3 repeat of this concert , just in time, as it may have been cancelled later.
I enjoyed the Brahms, a very leisurely performance.
Re Bruno Walter, no, his Brahms 2 wasn't slow, around 38 minutes, and in his late recording (when his tempi in Mahler did get slow) only 39 minutes incuding the first-movement repeat.
There's a fascinating film of Walter rehearsing the first movement of Brahms 2 in Vancouver.
