Although this concert was a relatively late addition to the Proms schedule, it was still in time to be included in the season announcement in April, when it was also included in the list of proms to be televised (albeit the channel wasn't confirmed at that time). The BBC have known they were going to show this for some time, so I don't think there was any need for a last minute adjustment to the BBC2 schedules to include this.

However, if it hadn't been televised, I expect BBC2 would have been showing more coverage of the Commonwealth Games in its place.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

In my day it would have been cricket on Radio 3 that took precedence.

Now starting at 5.55, I'm informed, but already seems to be on iPlayer:

Petroc Trelawny introduces the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra from the Royal Albert Hall.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

As Countryfile still starts at 8 that suggests an extended showing - more music or more talk? Either way it's unusual - culcher tends to get abbreviated rather than extended, unlike sport.

They seem to have moved it forward again since I looked. It started at 5.25.Now on.

It looks as if the hour long Simon Reeves programme was initially replaced with a half hour Scotland's Lochs episode then, from what you say that was ditched as well - but the Freeview schedule hasn't been revised - not very helpful but not unusual in my experience.
