Wonder if events at Flushing Meadows will affect viewing figures tonight...... I guess its double-screening here...or something......
I hope the conductor's speech (which I like to see, with one last toss of the teddybear.....) doesn't coincide with the tense climax, but it may well do....

Gity Razaz's Mother just finished. It's all right, and in all honesty, far better with writing fast music compared to Grace-Evangeline Mason's The Imagined Forest. The applause was very truncated (unfairly so, IMHO, it deserved better from the audience), and given that GR was featured before the music, one wonders if GR was in the RAH to take a bow, or was simply interviewed remotely.

Like the neologism - now listening on R3 while watching BBC 2 which is approx 17 mins behind . Katie Derham already on second outfit.,,,

I’m going to do the same; watch the tennis, and then catch up with the second half of the proms afterwards. This has the added benefit of being able to fast forward through KD and her guests’ chatter between pieces.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

I’ve never understood why these (largely unnecessary) interviews with ‘special guests’ have to to be displayed as watered down versions of the Borg. If Pointless on BBC1 can have all its participants unencumbered with face mikes, why can’t BBC 2 do the same? It’s a bit like an amateur musical stage production.

(A bit of straying into sport on these pages. Is it a new a trend? MU won by the way.)
Effective reworking of the Barber Adagio IMO.

You wouldn’t believe how expensive those face mics are …and they don’t last very long .

Ksenija Sidorova’s playing of the accordion was brilliant with puchy rhythms and woderful control of rubato, and line. I’m afraud that I don’t want to hear the work again as I found it trivial but I shall be tuning in when Sidorova returns, as she must, please.

I neither like ‘bleeding chunks’ nor do I love Wagner, but I do warm to his Wesendonk Lieder. Stuart Skelton’s interpretation of Im Treibhaus was a thing of beauty. I shall not say anything about his singing of the Prize Song beyond one word:’strained’.

But that was prerecorded so as Gimli memorably said to Legolas, "that still only counts as one!"

(Informing us of the long interval on R3 (30') , Petroc just made a dismissive reference to tennis.......translation...:"don't go changin'"... or "keep it here people!"...

Probably lost him a few listeners..... "I thought it was only on Prime.....quick!"

Now watching the accordion on tv ( with sound through my hifi ) having heard it before on R3 . The tv balance has a gigantic ‘hole in the middle ‘ - virtually no centre image at all . Completely balanced for the telly audience to create a stereo effect . There’s an article I read in which it’s revealed the tv balance is done on a Decca tree whereas radio uses co-incident pairs . I know which I prefer ….
                                Superb accordion playing ….
