I'm not familiar with the Simpson Quartet, but the later ones seem rather fine. Nothing of this one on YouTube, as far as I'm aware.

Since the only recording I know of (Delme Quartet) is on the Hyperion label, no streaming is available.

Caught up with this Chamber Music Prom also. As with the other Cadogan Hall concerts, very, very fine concert indeed. To my tin ear, the Marmen Quartet went for a HIPP approach in the Haydn, with trimmed vibrato that I could tell. In his on-stage chat with quartet first violinist Johannes Marmen, it almost sounded as though Petroc was about to stir the pot a bit when he asked JM his opinion about what it was like to learn the Simpson. Fortunately, JM was smart enough not to take the bait, if bait indeed it was. A look at the quartet's page indicates that they gave 3 prior concerts with the Haydn and the Simpson works just before this Cadogan Hall concert, one in Italy at Arona, and the next two at Snape Maltings and at Bollington. (There's even a video from the Bollington Chamber Concerts performance.)

Since Bryn mentioned the Delmé Quartet recording on Hyperion, here's the link to the pdf of the CD booklet for that album of RS' String Quartets Nos. 1 & 4:

I confess that I didn't catch the veiled quote from an LvB symphony in the final part of the RS. Perhaps a reason to go back and listen again :) .
