Decca Trees are sometimes used on radio . The TV relay has a different balance from the radio relay using a Decca Tree and there is quite a lot of spot miking .Fascinating stuff which explains why , to my ears, it sounds better on radio.

That may have been the case in 2014 but three years earlier, when a company specialising in outdoor sports broadcasting, was brought in, the engineering of the first few proms was something of a mess. I did not pay much attention to the microphone positioning or arrays but a fairly heavy level of peak limitation was applied, to the extent that if you laid a ruler on the waveform peaks it was like looking at a pop record's, horribly few peaks failing to reach the ruler.

My brother in law gave me a recent BBC MM disk including Oramo's Sibelius En Saga from the 2015 prom. I was genuinely impressed by the sound quality, much better than some other BCC live CDs I have and a real surprise from the RAH.
