Harsh. Today's only radio equivalent is Kermode and Mayo's Friday afternoon Film Review on Five Live. I listen most weeks and find Mark Kermode to be knowledgeable, amusing, enthusiastic ... and polite. He can also be read in the Observer where he took over as chief reviewer from the great Philip French

For me, Mark Kermode's palpable sense of his own importance makes the Film Review on the BBC News Channel unwatchable. Perhaps he comes across as less self-satisfied on the radio.

I don't know Kermode's unwatchable TV show but in the Observer and on radio I find he successfully combines authority and genuinely informative insight with wit and humour. I thought it was partly at least a lack of self-importance that makes him popular and sought-after.

Jayne lee wilson was of much the same view as yours: I was in the minority of one when we had disagreements on the forum over Mark Kermode, a few months ago.

I’m not really into films at all but I long ago thought that the Film TV programme that Barry Norman fronted all those years ago would have been best given to Mark Kermode many years ago instead of the many less knowledgable celeb presenters who were put in charge.
I never really see the point of film reviews on radio - it’s not as though they can show clips by way of illustrating their points - but then as a filmistine, what do I know?
