On that different subject - I don't quite appreciate how the discussion of the last night, even with the shenanigans using it as a beating stick of the BBC has arrived at the point where post #147 is relevant (and I'm not spending time to find out at present) :

      http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...244#post807244.

If it is relevant, I'd be grateful if the ensuing conversation remains there - so the major distraction from the thread topic is at least confined to one place.

That was in the R3 broadcast as well - she got rather choked up talking about it, and the commentary was moved on accordingly.

If coverage of last night's concert had been broadcast simultaneously on Radio 3 and BBC4, my enjoyment would haven been even greater as a result of being able to choose Martin Handley as my guide for the evening.

Likewise... Fortunately the HD recorder linked with the TV has a function which allows sections to be removed from recordings, so I spent 5 minutes going through the concert nipping out all presentation (as I might do to remove ads from a good film recorded on a commercial channel), leaving just the music (each piece ‘announced’ adequately by on-screen text).

On that basis, I’m finding it a delightful concert so far... spirited and deft direction and playing. Haven’t got to the Bach double concerto yet. But the sound quality in the airy space is very agreeable to listen to.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

With an american BIL all music of a certain period is 'broke'. It took me a while to work out what he meant when we first met as the 'a' is almost completely non-existent in his version.

His pronunciation of 'baroque' omits the 'a' almost entirely and the '..roque' is 'roke' rather than 'rock'.
Or did you mean BIL - which is brother in law?

Both, thanks! The only BIL I could find on googling was the Luxembourg International Bank and didn’t think it could be it that.

John McEnroe refers to the world's top tennis player as JOKEAVITZ.

Let's face it, many of those fro over the Pond refer to a certain late composer/conductor as "Bernsteen".

It’s a major reason I select Panasonic HD recorders: a very good ‘divide’/‘erase part’ function. I’ve done it with all Proms I’ve recorded and retained over the years - so much better without a syllable of ‘presentation’. It also means I can keep just one or two pieces from a concert if the rest don’t particularly interest me (cf the recent VW5).

It sometimes needs some careful editing when Service/Derham et al come blithering in loudly after about 2 seconds of applause
"...the isle is full of noises,
