Prom 41 (18.08.20) Giulini conducts Brahms

Incredible performances.

Brahms may have composed fewer symphonies than some other top 19th century composers, but there's such consistency of quality in all four works that it's pretty much impossible to suggest a rank order. One may have a personal favourite, but to actually say one is better than another? - Don't go there.

Tempted to get the DG Giulini box, there would be a few duplicates but not so many.

I went to the 1995 Haitink Prom mentioned in the interval. If memory serves it featured Four Last Songs and Death and Transfiguration in addition to the Rite.

Never a massive fan of youth orchestras, purely as a listener, the EUYO Proms were often exceptional.
