Just barely managed to hear this 2016 LvB Missa solemnis Prom before the deadline (unlike everyone else here 4 years ago). I well take Petrushka's point at the time about this Prom ending before 8 PM, although in hindsight, that did leave enough time to clear the hall for the RAH stage crew to set things up for the Gospel Prom later that evening. That aside, if only in terms of pacing and timing, Noseda set something of a balance between Harnoncourt and Gardiner, AFAICT. Some parts with Noseda did go at quite a fair lick, but he also knew when to let the pacing breathe naturally without trying to go for any sort of "ultra-show = ultra-profound" superficial kind of thinking. Soloists, chorus and orchestra all did well (with what seemed to be discreet contribution from the RAH organ, unless my aging ears deceive me), well guided by Noseda. Interesting to have the chance for mental comparison of Harnoncourt's earlier vintage Prom with the 18-years-on Noseda interpretation, where the latter may well have taken lessons from the HIPP movement.
