    Proms Preview

I’ve enjoyed listening to this Sunday evening programme highlighting some of the forthcoming week’s archive choices.

Sensible guests (inc our very own makropulos aka Nigel Simeone, also Roderick Williams talking good-humoured sense) and an interesting selection.

In the latest programme, I enjoyed too the segment revisiting Proms mishaps, perhaps most of all John Holmstrom vainly attempting to fill empty air when the piano lift got stuck. Mobile phone woes, the inevitable fainting Thomas Allen... but I personally couldn’t hear the percussionist who let his instrument get away from him in the Alpensinfonie storm scene (it just sounded like Strauss!)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

How nice of you to say so, not least because it was so enjoyable to do it, albeit remotely. Very glad you liked –and we did have rather a tremendous week to discuss (so much so that there was not time left to discuss the RVW Prom which we certainly wanted to talk about).
