Forum Calendar: Proms 2020 R3 relays (+ future material)

I've filled in the Forum Calendar with the scheduled R3 relays of past Proms for this 2020 summer Proms season, for anyone who wants to take a look. Compared to past years, there was much more manual searching, to look through the Proms Archive for the respective links, as opposed to simply toggling between the BBC Proms' and RAH's pages. Obviously the scheduled live events are in limbo, aside from a very cursory entry for The Last Night, since details like the exact programs and artists for each day aren't yet public, at least AFAICT. So the Forum Calendar is a "living document", in that I will try to update later events as details become available.

For what is there now, here are salient features, INPO:
    1. Each page has a link to its entry in the Proms Performance Archive. This admittedly may be of minimal interest.
    2. I have included links to each R3 entry for the actual date of performance, so that you can get to it if you didn't hear it on the day and want to listen later. Not all of the scheduled concerts have such R3 links. I will update those as I see them become available.
    3. As usual, I don't include running times of works, as my own personal quirk.
    4. I've included a few quick "blink and you'll miss 'em" comments on some of the rebroadcasts where semi-appropriate, e.g. mentioning that the Sondheim Prom, originally part of his 80th birthday celebrations, now does the same in his 90th year.
    5. For the most part, blank lines indicate the intervals. Exceptions are in the Proms Chamber Music / PCM / Proms at...Cadogan Hall concerts, which obviously had no interval, but where I judged that placing occasional blank lines in longer lists of works was more visually appealing.
    6. The other particular personal quirk is that I've numbered each of the Proms rebroadcasts with the phrase "Archival Proms (#)", which is my own choice and obviously has no official sanction from the BBC Proms or anyone else. It turns out that the total number of Archival Proms, if my counting is correct, is 74. 74 is a typical number of total Proms in recent years, which have hovered in the mid-70 range.

The one advantage that I see of the Forum Calendar entries is that it provides a one-stop-shop where you can click through to the information on any of the Proms rebroadcasts of interest. It also captures, where the BBC Proms' own "one-stop-shop" page does not, the one week of Afternoon on 3 rebroadcasts during the first full week of Proms rebroadcasts this month. I must thank Andrew Slater for pointing out this Afternoon on 3 facet in his comments on his one-pager, since I was so fixated on looking through the standard mid-day and evening entries that it never occurred to me that Afternoon on 3 might feature some rebroadcasts as well.

If anything strikes anyone as too off-the-wall, or even just plain wrong, feel free to let me know and I can rework things.

(PS: While obviously there's nothing from the EIF this summer to include in the calendar, the next best thing, speaking of Scotland, is the four Lunchtime Concert live relays scheduled from City Halls, Glasgow, starting on Tuesday. Those are in the Forum Calendar as well.)

The Forum Calendar is now updated to include new Afternoon on 3 Proms repeats (mostly in whole, a few in part) for the week of August 3, with links out to the Afternoon on 3 particular pages for that day's relay, and the Proms Archive pages for each event. All the remaining 'Archival Proms' numbers have been (manually) re-numbered to fit the new situation. If anyone hasn't yet seen those selections, you might find some interesting surprises among them. I also wonder if there might be another round of Afternoon on 3 archival Proms for the week of August 17, given the timing of this week and 2 weeks from now for Afternoon on 3 Proms repeats.

Side, or not so side, thought: would any of the Forum Moderators object if I were to start discussion threads, in the style of EA's threads, on the Afternoon on 3 Proms selections? It's partly because I, for one, don't want to see those Afternoon on 3 Proms repeats get completely overlooked.

Apologies if I've missed the link but is there a complete listing of all the archived TV Proms performances that will be shown on BBC4 this summer?

Is this what you're looking for?

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Many thanks for the link. I looked in vain for any archived televised Proms conducted by the BBCSO's chief conductors, including Andrew Davis, Rozhdestvensky, Colin Davis, Belohlavek, Slatkin, Oramo, etc. but to no avail. All ignored doubtless for "technical issues" reasons, along with some of the televised appearances of great American orchestras, such as the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas, or Andrew Litton and the Dallas Symphony. Oh well, no use complaining, as I dare say massively prohibitive repeat fees probably come into it anyway!

That page seems to have been expanded since last I looked at it: I had no idea that there were any separate afternoon archive Proms until I switched the radio on during one the other day. That's the page which flatly refused to print beyond the TV broadcasts last time I tried - I don't imagine that will have changed. What a shame that no easily-printable PDF version seems to have been provided :(

The Forum Calendar is now updated to include the latest 5 Proms Afternoon Concert repeats that will occur in 2 weeks. I haven't dared to try to include the BBC Four TV listings in the Forum Calendar, but given how difficult it is to navigate the BBC Four page to find program information, for curiosity's sake (I obviously can't watch any of the material, but I'm kind of burned out on videos now, so that may be just as well), maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to add some listings.

BTW, in case anyone didn't see it, starting next Monday at 11 AM, Donald Macleod will present archived Edinburgh Festival R3 concerts:

I suppose that I could add these to the Calendar as well, if anyone finds it of interest .

                Updates on the Forum Calendar:
                1. Entries for the 15 Edinburgh International Festival archive concerts are now present. The 3-week series starts tomorrow at 11 AM.
                2. Links to the R3 relay program(me) pages for the archival Proms are now in the Calendar entries through 28 August.
                3. Perhaps most importantly: entries for 13 of the scheduled live Proms concerts are now present. These include links to the BBC Proms and RAH pages, the latter specifically for events based at the RAH. In the Forum Calendar entries, I have briefly mentioned the city and venue in the Calendar entry titles, in acknowledgement of the events that will take place away from London, i.e. the BBC NOW's 'Proms at..." in Cardiff, the BBC SSO's 'Proms at...' in Glasgow, and the BBC Phil's 'Proms at...' in Salford.

It's clearly great to know that live Proms-related concerts will occur, albeit without audiences.

Now, the caveats, in terms of the Forum Calendar:
                (a) In terms of the current roster of archived Proms concerts, the new live concerts do throw several of the archival relays into limbo, or possibly out the window, like the Prom with the Judith Weir work that features Jessye Norman (perhaps to be re-slotted into an Afternoon Concert repeat - one can but hope), or the Latvian Radio Choir Prom of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil. The latter does look tentatively rescheduled to 30 August, but it's not clear to me at what time of day. Perhaps that will be a "Late Night Prom" time slot, but that is to be seen. So even though such entries like these are 'wrong' now, I'll keep them listed until I see more updated R3 schedule information on them, whether they get moved around or set aside.
                (b) It's also not clear about the exact time slots for the Isata and Sheku pre-recorded recital Prom, because the current info indicates an R3 radio relay on 6 September, but also a TV relay on BBC Four on 11 September. So I don't know when to slot the 6 September relay exactly.

All this means that the Forum Calendar remains a "living document", even if a very little-trafficked one, to serve as a one-stop-shop for anyone who wants to make use of its information. Will keep updating things here as I see information updates.

Forum Calendar is now updated to include:
                  * The Afternoon Concert re-broadcast Proms for next week
                  * The Isata & Sheku piano & cello 'virtual Prom', filmed at the RAH and scheduled for 6 September at 5:30 PM
                  * The re-scheduled re-broadcasts of the Rachmaninov All-Night Vigil and the Jessye Norman / London Sinfonietta Proms
                  * The full program of The Last Night

The one missing piece of the puzzle is the Monday 7 September RAH event, where no details are yet to be found, AFAICT.

                    Newest updates:
                    1. Today's BBC Phil Salford Quays Prom: change of conductor (to John StorgÄrds) and programme (loss of world premiere & Haydn symphony, Tchaikovsky in their places)
                    2. This weekend's BBC SSO City Halls, Glasgow Prom: change of conductor (to Alpesh Chauhan) and addition of George Walker's Lyric for Strings as opener
                    3. Addition of KOKOROKO for the Monday 7 September RAH performance, the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle for this summer's live RAH relays

PS: One question, though, on the Beethoven 9 Archival Prom for the penultimate night. According to John Drummond in his memoir, Kurt Masur actually conducted in place of Klaus Tennstedt, but the official R3 listing and the Proms Archive state Tennstedt. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Alina Ibragimova is no longer playing in tonight's prom following the death of her father Rinat. The program remains unchanged with members of the OAE playing the double concertos alongside Nicola Benedetti.

Indeed; condolences from here as well. The LSO has this tribute to Rinat Ibragimov on their page:
