All fair points, bsp in #72. However, all other summer festivals have cancelled and, given the current situation we have in the UK, it looks impossible to see the Proms in any kind of guise going ahead. While their may be a slight possibility of chamber performances there is only so far that you can go with that and the Proms are, in any case, primarily orchestral.

I stick by my comment that the season needs to be cancelled as any alternative, and I hope there is one, will not be 'The Proms'.

It's the Royal Albert Hall. I really do not think the current heir to the throne would let that close for any longer than was necessary and would not stand by and let it close permanently. It would be to great a loss of face for the monarchy.

        Really? Do you think so?

I really can't see the Proms going ahead in any sort of Proms-like form. And surely you can't downsize performances to a more chamber-ish level at this late stage?

To whom were you intending to respond?

Perhaps this development at the Wigmore, is a toe in the water, for what might be "audience-free" proms?

Musicians including Mark Padmore, Mitsuko Uchida, Angela Hewitt and Stephen Hough feature in ‘empty hall’ concert series to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in June

Some of the biggest pop festivals in the UK through to August have already been rescheduled or postponed until next year.

This summer's festival season has been ravaged by the Covid-19 crisis, leaving artists, organisers and fans wondering what comes next for the country's live music scene.

The BBC has resources which other festivals don't have, but it must be taxing their ingenuity to put on anything like a 'festival' in July-September.

                  Thank goodness for that...

... I'm sure most of the locals will be delighted!

After 10 hours, 2 days running, of the local festival last year - clearly audible from several miles away - this local certainly won't be sorry to see this summer's version scrapped.

Is there any update on The Proms status yet? Surely a decision will have to be taken soon.

Official BBC line is still '...We will update everyone ... by the end of May'.

OK, so we're nearly there - what's the big rush anyway!

Six weeks of archive material possibly followed by live concerts...

I’m guessing more details to come.

Newest official announcement from the BBC Proms website:

So maybe bsp will populate the Forum Calendar this year, after a fashion, after all.....
