All fair points, bsp in #72. However, all other summer festivals have cancelled and, given the current situation we have in the UK, it looks impossible to see the Proms in any kind of guise going ahead. While their may be a slight possibility of chamber performances there is only so far that you can go with that and the Proms are, in any case, primarily orchestral.

I stick by my comment that the season needs to be cancelled as any alternative, and I hope there is one, will not be 'The Proms'.

The article quotes the chief executive as saying that the future of the venue could be in jeopardy if continued social distancing means that it will be able to operate at only 30% of capacity. Of course, I have no way of knowing whether this is true or not.

It's the Royal Albert Hall. I really do not think the current heir to the throne would let that close for any longer than was necessary and would not stand by and let it close permanently. It would be to great a loss of face for the monarchy.

Perhaps this development at the Wigmore, is a toe in the water, for what might be "audience-free" proms?

Since it has been closed since the 17th of March with no intention to open until at least 30th June, this is hardly a news story the Torygraph has offered.

Perhaps we have to wait for the Gruniad to espouse and then all those who believe what it writes will be happy

The BBC has resources which other festivals don't have, but it must be taxing their ingenuity to put on anything like a 'festival' in July-September.

After 10 hours, 2 days running, of the local festival last year - clearly audible from several miles away - this local certainly won't be sorry to see this summer's version scrapped.
