Jonny Greenwood’s talents range from being lead guitarist of Radiohead to writing award-winning film scores. Here he curates a Late Night Prom culminating in the world premiere of his Horror vacui, which explores characteristics of electronically created music and transfers them into the acoustic arena.

The programme includes Biber’s almost Bachian Passacaglia for solo violin and Minimalist master Steve Reich’s radiantly throbbing Pulse.

....indeed, and RAH and half in half out audience +cameras and a BBC presenter will no doubt make it a thin soup....not quite gruel one hopes....liked his early solo film stuff first heard on Mixing It....

The concert probably over ran and so the end of it is likely to be found at the start of Late Junction.

No. It has been like that since it was posted around midnight. The list time I alerted them to such a problem, they resolved it but pretended it never happened. That's Aunty for you.

I rather enjoyed listening to this Late Night Prom on the radio, with a glass of scotch. It was a pleasure to listen to a live performance of Reich's Pulse, having only previously experienced its oxymoronic complex simplicity on the Nonesuch disc. Greenwood's Horror Vacui, a rhapsody for violin and unconventionally configured string orchestra, immediately recalled the premier of Tavener's Protecting Veil, one sensed that here was a work of substance that had a future. Time will tell.

Others have spotted that Sounds cuts off the hushed ending of the work, and I have just completed the tortuous task of alerting the Beeb. Whether it will be fixed soon, time will tell... . It's on BBC4 on Friday.

Thanks for this Bryn - can confirm, the Late Junction broadcast joins the Greenwood piece around 10.5 minutes in.

Weird that the Beeb don't have an automatic contingency for things like this - which presumably ends up having a domino effect on several subsequent programmes!

It actually wasn't that hard to splice them seamlessly together. :)

In a DAW, sure, but I would have wanted to do the splicing losslessly in mp3directcut. That said, there is now no need. They have repaired it.

Currently listening to this (on headphones). Not bad... string arrangement not dissimilar to that on the Radiohead song 'How to Disappear Completely'.
