Profound apologies to Jonathan Miller ...
I think his past misdemeanours would preclude any airplay, particularly on CBEEBIES, but that was rather a good song as were a number of JK’s other recordings. He was also responsible for launching the recording career of 10cc which proved he wasn’t all bad!

      It's obviously NOT for you
      so move on

      BINGO

Even before the complaints about clapping in the "wrong" place
we have the usual misanthropic nonsene about a gig that the folks moaning won't go to, won't listen to and aren't interested in

Would you like my opinion about the offside rule ? while you are at it ?

Possibly not EA, and possibly not me as I'm grandparent rather than parent, but I'm pretty sure my son would also wonder as I did in my earlier post what that music had to do with the theme, and how to answer his child's questions about it. Having looked at this https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ecgfbp I'm not much the wiser. Possibly this is actually a visual event with the music providing the soundtrack, in which case the musical relevance/connection isn't, erm, relevant, it's the sound of that music in relation to the pictures. A perfectly valid approach but not perhaps quite what the title conjured up for some of us?

And your choices appear to be more different than many - oh the joy of music!

I think (and I would have chosen very different music myself.... ) it's an example of Musicking or even what Wagner was on about.......

              No Ligeti ?

That would have been in 2001.

Was there any point in broadcasting this on R3 this morning, other than to fulfill the 'every prom broadcast' claim? Listening to an audience reacting to what you cannot see happening in RAH doesn't to me seem to achieve much in terms of introducing children to 'classical' music. I don't know if it has been recorded for TV but it wasn't being shown live on Cbeebies this morning.

Well, the audience sounded as though they were enjoying it, so that was alright, then Personally I was looking forward to hearing more from the Clangers. Hoped we might hear from The Soup Dragon, the benign provider of green soup who dwells in the soup wells within the Clangers' planet, usually summoned by tapping on the top of what look like a small inactive volcano by Small Clanger who brings a jug to be filled. Green Soup reserves have been exhausted by now …

                        Liked the Hans Zimmer commission
And the tune ends too soon for us all

That's something at least. I'll tell my son and see if he and his daughter can watch - I'd be interested in their reaction.

That was my sense too, indulging my cultural anthropology side by giving this "family Prom" a listen. My main interest in that sense was to gauge how well Chineke! would do under these circumstances, which strike me as far from usual for this orchestra. Under these circumstances, they did pretty well. One obvious clam (oops) in Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, but that was the one major hiccup. Kwame Ryan was also a good sport in addressing the audience with his quick podium remarks. These kinds of family concerts are de rigeur for US orchestras, albeit without TV characters and the resources of the BBC to back them up. So to reach out to new audiences, and lay the groundwork for the future, US orchestras and the BBC do what they have to do.
