Err, just my opinion. Hope you’re not telling me I can’t have one?!

      NB.
Well, I didn't have distinction Grade 8 but I did have my Guildhall Performer's Diploma...

(First movement of the Brahms Concerto including cadenzas as well as the Bach Chaconne!)

Please don't try to denigrate MY talent!

(Incidentally, one of the rather sneering auditioners was booted from his front desk duties due to alcohol problems. Guess who got his job eight years later..?)

The first time I played Prokofiev's 'Romeo and Juliet was with an orchestra who had toured and recorded it. I was expected to play to the same standard as my colleagues despite virtually sight reading it. (Live on the radio, if you please!) As opposed to having three weeks to play it over and over and over and over... That's what I mean by a REAL Orchestra instead of it being a jolly...

Exactly - It was an Error, not an opinion; that was what I was telling you.

Sorry I’m obviously being very thick here but was is the error you’re referring to?

The opinion that NYO was mainly recruited from private schools as suggested in #13. Of course a professional and a teenage orchestra are both REAL orchestras. Still not sure why your post tails off in #79.

Well it was in the dark recesses of the 1980's.

As for tailing off in #79, that's what Claudio used to do in rehearsals... (Have you ever played under Abbado, Bernstein, Tennstedt, Masur, Haitink...? Or am I tailing off again?)

I think it's you who likes to visit the Green Room after concerts and had assumed that like a little boy you hunt for autographs.
But I now imagine the conductor and soloists queue for your autograph ...

Come on FHG, surely a host should be more accommodating to other views...

PG, but for Jonfan's intemperate postings I think we were all expectantly awaiting your views on the great Italian/Scottish violinist's rendition of the Tchaikovsky VC. I trust that the moment has not passed, and you will give us your considered opinions.

For my part, one or two moments of questionable intonation aside it was a rousing and poetic performance. As for R&J, jaw dropping virtuosity in the fight scene and death of Tybalt.

Thank you Sir Velo I thought the questionable intonation was just my questionable ears...

The conductors didn't ask for my autograph - just responsive playing...

Surely, responsive playing was your autograph?
