The BBC seem increasingly caught between two stepping stones across the beck, and risk crashing into the drink below.
For me - and I like music of all kinds - the RAH is just NOT the place for the pop / R2 Friday Night is Music Night tedium.
Now, if the first half of a concert was Mahler 4th, and the second Nina Simone Memory Night, it'd be interesting to see how the audience changed!!
Particularly interesting if the Mahler 4 soloist was also a soloist for the Nina Simone!

According to Arthur Jacobs' bio of Wood, the manuscript scores & parts are lodged in the Royal Academy of Music. Some enterprising record company should record a CD of all three Fantasias ("Scottish", "Welsh" and "Sea Songs") and if there's sufficient room left over, throw in his "Purcell Suite" for good measure ...

I can't resist plugging Bliss's excellent choral cantata The Beatitudes, written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral, which had a super performance in the Barbican a couple of years ago, now released on Chandos. Full of good stuff. Should be done at the Proms, but never has been.

Thank you both for reminding me that the Lyrita issue was a Prom performance: I'd forgotten. The recent Dutton transfer of the Coventry premiere is pretty ropey sonically, very murky and shallow. There may be a better off-air recording of that first performance lurking in the Itter Collection, perhaps. The new Chandos is the one to have, for sure - the concert itself had a real sense of occasion about it, which has for once transferred to the CD.
