Half listened stuck in a traffic jam on M4 due to what looked like a rather serious accident. We were returning from London following a very enjoyable day out in sunny London which included a matinee performance of the new play Hansard at the National Theatre and the excellent Kubrick show at the Design Centre, specially extended with evening opening due to popularity. Quite enjoyed the choral folk songs but soon switched to Five Live.

Perhaps it's all part of the BBC's plan to encourage the young to watch TV - in which case, they might like to read the report in yesterday's 'Times', according to which the plan has backfired, as the changes on BBC1 after the 10.00 o'clock news have actually led to a drop in the number of viewers from the target group.

I don't have too much of a problem with the patriotic aspect of the 'Last Night of the Proms' what with all that tradition and often silly ritual.

It's just that I'm sick of seeing it.

Normally I stick with it, but I threw in the towel half way through the Grainger.

I spent the evening listening to my Ravi Shankar CDs. Thoroughly pleasing few hours. I don't think I missed anything by avoiding that extravaganza last night.

Oh, I wouldn't advise that, seethe - they may be much bigger than you, and have a better command of English punctuation, grammar and syntax. As Alpie points out, it isn't the Beeb in charge of who gets into the RAH - but your misunderstanding is a common one, shared (with only slightly less rabid terminology) by Farage, The Sun, The Express and others whose belief in freedom of speech and expression is only lip service.

I'd me more concerned by the sad little Englanders with their false flag still asserting suzerainty over the Republic of Ireland via continued inclusion of the St Patrick saltire in the Union Jacks they wave.

This one came up in a Facebook discussion. "Will" is the word used in the original song, and this correction has been used at the LNOTP for a number of years now.

....other than some astoundingly incisive and intelligent presentation by Katie Derham and various "guests".*

I just caught the final five minutes on R3, waiting for the insipid programme of new music that followed - normally I don't watch this or listen to it - and it seemed more excruciating than it even used to be. Is it normal these days to repeat "Land of Trope & Gory?" Ye gods, this is becoming a sick country.

What is predictable on the Last Night over the years is people on these boards saying how bad it is and they'd rather watch paint dry than see or hear it again. Then, Lo! and Behold they pop up the following year and say the self same thing! LNOTP is not going to change. If you don't like it just celebrate the glorious variety and quality of the music making over the last 8 weeks in all the other concerts.
