What is predictable on the Last Night over the years is people on these boards saying how bad it is and they'd rather watch paint dry than see or hear it again. Then, Lo! and Behold they pop up the following year and say the self same thing! LNOTP is not going to change. If you don't like it just celebrate the glorious variety and quality of the music making over the last 8 weeks in all the other concerts.

As I have ,as far as I know , never dismissively criticised the Last Night of the Proms (in its entirety) nor have I criticised those who have chosen to do so may I permitted to point this out with a promise not to do so again in future ?

Oh, I wouldn't advise that, seethe - they may be much bigger than you, and have a better command of English punctuation, grammar and syntax. As Alpie points out, it isn't the Beeb in charge of who gets into the RAH - but your misunderstanding is a common one, shared (with only slightly less rabid terminology) by Farage, The Sun, The Express and others whose belief in freedom of speech and expression is only lip service.

The only problem about ending the 2019 Proms is that for the next three to six months we'll get endless repeats of Proms concerts on R3 from what, for me, has been a pretty iffy season altogether as the Beeb tries to be all things to all people and time after time fails to meet many of those people.

No there hasn’t been in the past endless repeats, just a fortnight of concerts over the Christmas/New Year holiday. Sorry DracoM but I’ve no idea what the last part your sentence means. As a national broadcaster it’s supposed to be catholic in approach and appeal to as many niches of taste as possible. In its radio stations, for example, it has a jolly good go at doing that.
It’s been a great season IMHO which didn’t look fantastic on paper at the start but in the detail has been superb in quality and programming from Warner film scores, through Handel’s Jephthah, Mixtape and Bruckner with Haitink, to name just four that I enjoyed amongst many others.

This one came up in a Facebook discussion. "Will" is the word used in the original song, and this correction has been used at the LNOTP for a number of years now.

Fair enough - I just lazily googled the lyrics and it came up as ‘shall’ - I will, or even shall, however, continue to sing ‘shall’ - don’t like changes!

Perhaps it's all part of the BBC's plan to encourage the young to watch TV - in which case, they might like to read the report in yesterday's 'Times', according to which the plan has backfired, as the changes on BBC1 after the 10.00 o'clock news have actually led to a drop in the number of viewers from the target group.

...and I guess that older viewers are choosing hitting the sack earlier.

Probably the worst second half we’ve had for many years - on the plus side from the Parks, if we must have these, the Hyde Park opera singer and the piano soloist from Belfast were a welcome change from the dumbed down stuff we usually get from this event. Just another point - I may be wrong but isn’t it usually ‘shall’ rather than ‘will’ in Rule Britannia?

I was in the Hall, and I agree - the second half didn't really catch fire. As for 'shall' and 'will' - the old perennial - the word printed in the programme is 'will', so that's what I sing, and those who disagree are what I shall choose to call wrong. I have programmes for over 25 Last Nights to back me up. I accept that that's a weak argument when applied to the obviously wrong words given for Auld Lang Syne - so far as I am aware they were last printed correctly back in the days of James Loughran - but there's no way around it. If we are to sing at all then it's best if we all sing the same words, and that means singing what is printed in the programme.
