What was M Thibaudet's encore? SK merely described it as 'a salon piece by Schubert'.
I'm afraid I soon forgot all about the Bernstein once the Shostakovitch was under way.
Loved the Finnish folk song encore that followed the concert!

Also intrigued that he'd asked Michael Caine to be his page turner!

Yes likewise glad not to be the only one noticing that resemblance. Oh, and “The other night I drifted nice continental drift divide Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs, Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean,” anyone ....?

Yes, but what about the piece? Symphony No.2 by Leonard Bernstein?
I'll try to get back to the Prom now computer-things are sort-of-OK again, but early this morning I listened again to the new Zimerman/Rattle... and I was just in heaven..oh God, how wonderful is that? Orchestra, soloist, conductor at a rare peak... "Record of the Year" written all over it.. but surely it's Lenny's finest orchestral achievement anyway? (**)

It is a lucky work on record now, with Foss/Bernstein, Entremont/Bernstein, Tocco/Slatkin, and now the new Berlin one and the Rana/Pappano in the complete, very luxuriously packaged set.

(**) yes, I am aware that Zimerman could be jazzier or snappier in the Masque, but that isn't what this performance is about...

Kupelwieser Waltz in G flat major D.AI/14, I think (not a waltz in G, as suggested ny PT).

New chance to hear this Baltimore SO Prom on New Year's Eve (and 30 days after), before the rebroadcast of The Last Night (I don't think that I need to bump that thread up):
