Proms at … Lincoln Drill Hall – 4.08.18

    15:00 & 19.30
    Lincoln Drill Hall

    Igor Stravinsky: The Soldier's Tale

    Hebrides Ensemble
    William Conway conductor

Following the success of last year's 'Proms at ...' concert in Hull, the BBC Proms once again travels outside London, this time to Lincoln.
The city's 19th-century Drill Hall - home to the Fourth Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, deployed to the Western Front in 1914 - is the evocative setting for a staged performance of Stravinsky's First World War music-theatre piece The Soldier's Tale.
William Conway conducts the Hebrides Ensemble in this tale of a young man who sells his soul (and his violin) to the Devil in exchange for untold wealth - or so it seems.

I'm choking on my words, and apologise most profusely to the BBC. I recently referred to the Hull Prom of 2017 as a one-off, but here we have another.

Staged too, so why isn't it on TV?

Apologies for the apparent time warp. My comments on the NYO thread made little sense without this one being released first. I appear to have "moderated" it by mistake.

Fine performance of The Soldier's Tale just now from Lincoln Drill Hall. I'll try to transcribe the actors' names for the Forum Calendar later, to give credit where credit is due. Petroc mentioned a bit of stagecraft, to represent Joseph being dragged down to his fate, in lieu of the standard English closing text, namely the Devil dressed in red priestly robes taking Joseph off stage.

Damn! I missed it. And I could have actually attended this Prom as I'm in the vicinity for a few days.

Managed to track down the actors' names and archive them in the Forum Calendar:

            Daisy Maywood (Narrator)
            Lawrence Guntert (Soldier)
            Tom Dawze (Devil)

DM posted about the experience on her Twitter feed:
