This is the sort of problem you get into with lists.
The presuppositions concert was something borrowed from Ferney who chose Stravinsky and Schönberg for such treatment.

I not expect fellow Boarders to accept either the firm or contents of my list...
I thought the concept of blogs, such as this one, is to encourage Socratean debate.

Can I please nominate Ralph Vaughan Williams as the greatest ever composer whose initials include the name of a German car manufacturer?

          Could we make a list?

Well, there's Benzamin Britten, I suppose.

And Malcolm Arnold appears in the German lorry manufacturer MAN.

Malcolm Williamson in BMW (and Bernard Matthews, but his music never took off like his chicken wings. It's booful though).

Gave RVW 2 another listen, as self-promised, through speakers at home. It was wonderful to hear more details and a much deeper sound picture through speakers compared to earbuds at work. I'd actually half-forgotten how relatively spacious AM's reading was in place, with the whole taking about 49 minutes from beginning to end. If, as I earlier hoped, this performance doesn't become a BBC Music Magazine CD, at least hopefully R3 will include this Prom as part of the end-of-year holiday offerings of selected Proms repeats from this season.

BTW, a modest bonus for anyone who stops by this thread again, if you hadn't separately found that video. Its provenance is interesting (and you do have to excuse the visible number of empty seats in the audience).

I, too, recently listened again to Manze's 'London' symphony - this was the third time - and was just as impressed as on the previous occasions.
On the subject of empty seats, I initiated a discussion some time ago at the number of empty seats for the Hickox/BBC NOW 2005 Proms performance (available on You Tube and via the BBC iPlayer) of the original version of this work. The view among contributors to the discussion was that this apparent lack of interest was due to two things - the fact that it was an 'out-of-town' orchestra, and the absence of a 'star' soloist elsewhere on the programme. However, Manze was also conducting a 'regional' orchestra and the other work on the programme was Haydn's 'London' symphony. I suspect that the Armistice commemorations may have played a part.
The Manze concert was repeated on 17th December as part of the Afternoon Concert and is currently available on BBC Sounds.
