And there are other BBC Orchestras to consider. But then, the Proms do HAVE TO BE IN LONDON. (or Hull)

No, you are absolutely right, of course (and, for my money the BBCNOW is a finer ensemble than the BBCSO - as is the BBCSSO, for that matter). But we're talking about the modern Beeb Proms - and "reasons" ("convincing" or otherwise) aren't much of a priority. It has been decided that the BBC London Orchestra gets to start and end the Season - we'll have to wait until the next generation of management comes along and hope that they'll be as keen to get rid of the conventions they inherit as this lot has been. ("Hey! Why don't we do something radical, and only have complete works in Proms concerts?!")

Just managed to book myself a grand tier box seat for this - very excited by that, especially as I haven't been to a Prom for a couple of years, and online this Prom appeared to be sold out. (Apparently a few tickets still available.) And I think I have reached a stage in life where promming no longer appeals, especially with more than two hours' travel either side. But this is a great treat to look forward to!

              - I still haven't yet heard this work, Live in a concert hall, and had I lived closer to London, I would probably gone along to this one.

Grand tier box seat. It that location as flash as it sounds? Maybe the sort of box reserved for European Royalty!

You sound like me, except I haven't yet shelled out for a fancy seat. I hope I haven't reached the stage where the Proms has lost its allure, but I find it much easier to resist the temptation to struggle in now.

The nice box office lady didn't mention caviar or champagne, but on the other hand neither did she refer to a dress code. I assume that the flash owner of the box is not a Mahlerian and cashed in his tickets.

Plenty of coaches down at £15,and £29 advance available to get back to Leeds on the train at 22.35.

Book a promming ticket at 9.00 AM and you'd do the whole thing for just over £50. worth every penny I’m sure.

( or save another £16 and kip on your way back north on the 23.30 coach, gets in at 5.20....)

Not at all ... offering possible solutions to the problems that prevent others from enjoying themselves is, I think, everyone's "business". I mulled your suggestions over, and nearly went for the train idea - but just at the moment, the problems (real and potential) outweigh the benefits (real and potential).

Of course, having made my decision, I shall be kicking myself for the rest of my earthlies if the performance tonight turns out to be the best I've heard of the work!

Hopefully tonight will be just “very good” then!!

Having had a nose around in the past, there do seem to be quite a few good price advance tickets back to Yorkshire at times which would allow a visit to an evening Prom. I have seen some to York as well as Leeds around the £25 mark, some as low as £16 one way.

A week or more ahead looks to be the best bet to get a good price.

Don't forget your ear defenders, it can get mighty loud if you're in the right/wrong place.
