Didn't realise it had such a long and distinguished history and seems to have adapted well to survive It features interviews with horn player and HO marketing Pieter Hunfeld and viola player Isabella Petersen. Fascinating insights into Buckley's conducting techniques and a brief description of the advanced In Ear System the players use. Always wondered what its function was. The interview starts at about 50'13" on Listen Again.
I have not listened as yet, but intend to do so. His descriptions of his microtonal approach entice me.

They were probably all having fun and enjoying themselves. So that's all right, then.
I suppose it is my particular age, but seriously, there is so much to say, so much to get a young person going , and this just seems to be music that wants to be ( very) popular, and "classy".
I find myself veering between stifling yawns, and silently shouting " SAY SOMETHING * ".

Gently depressing , the whole business.

      * Not cheap banter between songs , but in the music, lyrically, musically, any way at all.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Like Stevie Wonder...Talking Book, Inner visions, Fulfillingness' First Finale...but hey ho, Jacob Collier references him on You Tube.

I have just booked tickets for Harry Connick Jr at the Palladium in October, and have high (perhaps unrealistic) hopes that he's still got it.

What's all the fuss about? Pleasant enough but grossly overblown arrangements and despite accurate pitching, rather a non-descript voice, not helped by poor balance at least on the BBC4 recording. Obviously musically gifted but is that enough?

I watched a few minutes of this on television last night, in a slightly masochistic manner, and found JC's style strangely narcissistic and seductive. The music wasn't for me but he certainly knows how to work an audience.

I suspect that if you serve anything spectacularly and with enough bling, you can take anyone in. Wagner and Prince managed it - but that's enough *names* for now.

                    Narcissistic certainly.

Fairly damning review in today's Times by Clive Davis (no, I don't know who he is either): only two stars out of a possible five.

I'd be tempted to say that these days, when so much can be achieved by technical wizardry and good promotion, that's a bonus.
I think he is perhaps going to be one of those performers who divide people into 'he's great' and 'I can't see what the fuss is about' camps. If his music gives people enjoyment and he can make a living out of it then good luck to him.

Waddya mean 'either'??? In the past he's written on jazz and world music in The Sunday/Times. I distinctly recall him writing, back in 2004 "'I am sure that [Roger] Wright's pursuit of the trendies who turn out to munch canapés at the Radio 3 Awards for World Music is doomed.' (Whatever happened to the Radio 3 Awards for World Music, btw?)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Extraordinary: he was only 9 or 10 then....

He was on Proms Extra last night (my first, and possibly last, viewing of it) and came over as thoughtful and articulate (and dressed to impress...someone ). Mind you, it all seemed a bit of a love-fest, apart from David Owen Norris.
