I'm trying to locate the music for Stan Kenton's version of West Side Story. Not much success at the moment.

And the significance of the tritone in West Side Story - I never knew that, quite revelatory, as were Jamie Bernstein's comments about "Somewhere", how those double-basses keep undermining the optimistic fantasy, yet never quite killing it....

Bernstein 100 - Composer of the Week

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

In order for this to be effective you'll need to repeat this post at least once an hour . I've heard that On The Town iplayer trail three times today - enough to work out that one of the singers is Julian Ovenden from the Bernstein proms a few years back . Enough no more.... 'tis not so sweet as it was before.....

Irritatingly the credits listed the singers but not the role. The Maria was absolutely terrific as well. A wonderful and informative film despite the occasionally over-emoting presenters. The tritone in Maria is a very rare example of a popular song opening with an augmented 4th just as Somewhere is a rare example of a opening rising minor 7th ( People have pointed the similarity of Somewhere's melody to a section of the B major tune in the second movement of the Emperor ) .
I am not much of a singer but I guess they are quite hard to pitch....

Even the BBC News at 10 has a trailer. Mind you, this is much better - good publicity where it's needed.

Yes, just saw Marin Alsop on that news item... all grist to the mill, really - I welcome it.... you see, Doversoul et al, I might not have returned to Bernstein's Symphonies and other orchestral works without the publicity (R3, Proms, Gramophone, News etc) that came my way....

That was my only point here really - get back to the music, never mind the quantity feel the quality etc...

False Consensus Effect implied here. Just because it took you back to the music and you found much to enjoy doesn't mean:

                          a) it will take others back to the music (they may just switch off)

                          b) they will find anything to enjoy in the music (regardless of whether they have heard it before).

The Essential Claasics presenter has just had a coughing fit . And what should come in handy ? You guessed it - a Bernstein trail - albeit a new one.

What makes you think that those who are complaining about the trailers are not listening to the music? Or if you are talking about talking about the music, there are appropriate threads elsewhere, as has been pointed out.
