I've filled in the Forum Calendar with entries for this summer's Proms, and the 16 (count 'em - strange number, to be explained below) Edinburgh International Festival concerts from the Queen's Hall that R3 will relay in August. Everyone here is free to jump ahead on the calendar to have an advance look, and be amused (or otherwise, as appropriate) at how it looks. Since I've settled on a general formula, that will pretty much stay the same, although there might be other information tweaks down the line, to add to all the manual data entry.
(A) Getting more granular, as is BSP's wont, and starting with The Proms:
* I've included hyperlinks out to the BBC Proms and RAH links for each Prom, and also for 2 of the 3 "Proms at..." concerts, the hyperlinks from Lincoln Drill Hall and Alexandra Palace. I'll take care of the Roundhouse link for that Proms at... concert when that link eventually shows up from the Roundhouse's website.
(One oddity from the BBC's page on the Proms at...Lincoln Drill Hall concert is that they omit the 3 PM performance, which I'm assuming is the one that R3 will relay, but have kept mention of the 7:30 PM performance, which R3 clearly cannot relay, as that conflicts with the NYOGB concert. On the Forum Calendar listings, I have listed both the 3 PM and 7:30 PM performances. The Lincoln Drill Hall page keeps both as well.)
* I have included the general page for the Proms which are broadcast on TV below the RAH link, where that Prom will either be relayed live or later on TV.
* As usual, I omit works' running times as my own personal quirk.
* For the most part, a blank line indicates the concert interval. The usual exceptions are with several of the Proms at...Cadogan Hall Monday series, if the program has many shorter works (e.g. Wallis Giunta's all-American recital). In such instances, since obviously the Cadogan Hall Monday concerts have no interval, the blank lines are to make the presentation more visually pleasing / less unpleasing.
(The exception where I have deviated from the official BBC Proms display of the interval is Prom 43, where just based on aural endurance, I cannot imagine that it is possibly correct to have the David Robert Coleman work right after the Brahms op. 77, and then only the Scriabin as the 2nd half of the concert - unless given the potentially highly political nature of DRC's work, maybe this is an attempt to minimize possible disruption. Anyway, I really shouldn't go any further on this.)
* Obvious advance information gaps include the full casts for West Side Story and On the Town, and the full concert programs such as for Prom 3 (BBC Young Musician of the Year 40th Anniversary) and the Relaxed Prom (Prom 59). I'll fill in details later as they come and we get closer to the season.
* Where possible, to fill in some information gaps on either the BBC Proms or RAH listing, I've collated information into the single Forum calendar entry, e.g. Prom 48, with tenor Sunnyboy Dladla singing the Teapot, the Little Old Man, and the Tree-Frog in L'enfant et les sortilèges. This was missing from the BBC Proms listing, but present on the RAH listing.
* From manually searching the Proms Performance Archive and cross-checking, I've included "Proms debut artist" and "Proms debut ensemble" for artists, and "first performance at The Proms" for works, where appropriate. (Proms works that are receiving their world premieres, UK premieres, or London premieres, don't need that designation, natch.) Not too many big surprises among Proms debut ensembles, with the happy exception of a Swiss orchestra with a Brit principal conductor :) .
* With the increased emphasis on performing more works by female composers at The Proms, I specifically have listed each female composer in the summary header by her full first and last name. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad idea, but given the relatively low traffic that the Forum Calendar most probably gets, it may not be that big of a deal.
For more possible information additions down the line:
(a) I will continue the retro-addition of encores during the season, so that the Forum Calendar can then serve as an archive, since each Prom's calendar entry immediately becomes dated once the event has hit.
(b) I finally tracked down where the pages are for BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC Four. If I really want to get even more OCD than usual with the Forum Calendar, I might even add the hyperlink to the respective specific TV program pages, which will naturally be principally from BBC Four.
One bit of silliness to close "Part 1": from the Prom 3 header, I finally figured out the character limits on titles. It's 250 characters. You can see that the last names of several of the pianists and also Andrew Gourlay are missing. (OTOH, with the announcement of Lauren Zhang as 2018 BBC Young Musician of the Year, the Forum Calendar is ahead of the BBC Proms and the RAH in including her name among the guest performers, the one time that I can claim to be ahead of the game.)
(B) Regarding Edinburgh:
Again as usual, I've included the link out to the EIF page on each Queen's Hall concert. All but one of the 16 concerts are live relays. The exception is the Nicola Benedetti / AAM concert, live on Saturday August 4, but broadcast the next Tuesday August 7. I noted the number 16 as being a bit unusual, since traditionally, R3 has featured 15 concerts during weekdays from the EIF. The "bonus" concert on Saturday, August 11 looks to be the second of the Takács Quartet and Marc-André Hamelin concerts, which strikes me as a very prominent deviation from package protocol. However, I can certainly understand that R3 doesn't want to "shortchange" listeners by offering only the first TQ/M-AH concert from Edinburgh, but not the second, so that R3 will go ahead with airing both.
I've added "EIF debut artist" where appropriate, to maintain some consistency with the Proms' listings on the Calendar. I'll also retro-add encores from these EIF concerts where they do occur.
The usual general disclaimer applies at the end, namely that I may have introduced my own errors in creating each listing. I will correct those as I learn them, besides getting updated information to add.
