"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

The Kodály conducted performance (which I like very much) is also here, reissued by Hungaroton and on a 2-disc set that seems to be available for 12 quid or so. I have had it for a few years and would definitely recommend it to Kodály enthusiasts.
You can hear it here too:

I thought her performances were excellent and idiomatic for an opera singer . I would also prefer Weill sung by Ute Lemper and Gershwin by Audra McDonald but the crossover requirement now imposed on the last night forces great singers like Kaufmann,Florez and Stemme to sing this type of repertoire .
I have enjoyed watching on Sky + I have been able to filter out the proms in the Park ,La Derham and all the nonsense filler stuff .

Originally posted by ardcarp View PostAS seen on TV, the genuine Last Night prommers seem to be getting older. The cameras tried to pan onto a few young faces. My oldest g-daughter, OTOH, who aged 19 watched the whole thing rapt, said, "I want to be there next year!" So there is hope.
Thought Sakari Oramo was great...just the right touch with the masses. I too wish they'd give up all that Park nonsense.
I'm in favour of Proms in the Park: it keeps people with no interest in other concerts out of the Hall.
