    There were no redeeming features.

Surely even Suzi Klein couldn't have considered the Bruckner 'absolutely fantastic'.

I didn't hear the performance but Andrew Clements is widely perceived as a fat-buttocked fraud (and not just by me):

Led by Daniele Gatti, the orchestra’s buoyant, effortlessly flexible playing was a constant delight in a programme of Bruckner, Mahler and Rihm

I think I'd rather trust my own ears as well as other formulites on this occasion!

Goodness me, a ridiculous review. Agreed, it describes the performance you might have expected but not as it actually was.

Clements lost the plot at least twenty years ago.

But that photo of Gatti - "Listen! The cheeldren of the night: what mooosik they make! Dreadful, isn't it!"

Hmmm... I think that remark is a bit too much below the belt ( honestly, no pun intended!) although I do agree that the review can only have been that of an imagined performance.

I was frankly amazed at how differently concerts can be heard. It was almost as if the reviewer and I were listening to two entirely different performances of especially the Bruckner. Blimey!

Clements sneered at what I took to be an outstanding performance of Prokofiev 5 by the RLPO and Petrenko earlier this year. I had no time for him before; after that, i have even less than no time for him!
