When I first saw him play (I think he was about 8 at the time and had the same cello teacher as my daughter) it was obvious that he was really at home with an instrument.
And unlike the youngster discussed elsewhere who is famous for writing pastiche he seems to be in touch with the wider worlds of music.

    BUT

Let's hope folks dont go on and on about his clothes, he can wear what he likes, it's his gig.

I agree with some that occasionally the Orchestra lacked a little in some sections [the horn section in the Rimsky-Korsakov], but even the big orchestras can have noticeable performance issues/audible glitches. I enjoyed the Prom immensely because of and despite of it being an 'occasion', though an important one for the Proms. Thanks to those in this thread who have made some really positive comments [french frank, MrGongGong, Richard Barrett].
The concert is being broadcast on BBC Four Sat Sept 9th at 21:30
erm...pi, I think you will find that the concert is, in fact, being screened on BBC 4 on
Friday, 8 Sept at 21.30hrs. Sept 9 is reserved for the Hooray Henry fraternity!

Very interesting to see this concert broadcast and what a fine ensemble this is already. Sheku Kanneh-Mason is a terrific talent with a wonderful and relaxed technique. He's obviously completely at home in front of an audience.

And all credit to the dynamic Chi-Chi Nwanoku for being such a force behind this orchestra.

Exemplary TV presentation. No prattling whatever.

Really enjoyed it, particularly the Rimsky. Didn't notice the socks, though!
