    Anyone who DOES like Charles Mingus will be pleased to note that WKCR (NYC Columbia) is broadcasting his music around the clock (24)7) tomorrow to coincide with his birthday. Better get it in your soul...or indeed "git"...

        Just another excuse for noise, I'm afraid and another televised Prom wasted, in my opinion of course.
        I have nothing against these non-'classical' music programmes but just DON'T include them in the Promenade Concerts. Put them on out of that season as I'm sure they'd still sell out to their aficionados.

          Mingus wasn’t one of my heroes and I haven’t listen to this for decades. I don’t think I appreciated it enough in those days.

          I love jazz, but this was a classic example of typical TV jazz for people who don't really like jazz.
